surely you had to expect that though? when a band like against me! signs to a major label, theyre exposed to a much, much wider audience than they previously had and particularly the new demographic of 'everyone else'. where before they were largely a punk niche band (niche is a terrible description but i dont know how to word it), now singles like 'thrash unreal' were being played on mtv. of course things were going to be different and obviously they were bound to play a lot of their newer material because that's what most bands tour for; to advertise their product.
with that said though, i'm really sad that i never got to go to an old against me! show

OK, maybe there aren't "girly" songs in Clarity, but the one song that is close to fitting that category, "Pretty Girls (The Mover)" was kind of peculiar because it might be their cheesiest song, pre New Wave and secondly the previous four times I saw them play live, they never played this song....EVER!
The rest of the songs that were played that irritated the hell out of me were Trash Unreal, Animal, Stop and Borne on the FM Waves and it was highlighted by The Ocean, but when The Ocean proves to be the top song in the last few waning minutes of your show, there's something wrong with that picture.

Dude, we have more in common than I expected. I must reply but I have to play "8 full hours of sleep" in the background:
"surely you had to expect that though?" yes and no. I think the last time I saw against me! (the 5th and final time that is) was in late 2009 or 2008. Even when New Wave came out, I saw them live in 2007 on back-to-back shows on Thanksgiving weekend. They played a killer show at the House of Blues that was full of surprises, playing mostly old songs (including playing a song that I always wanted to hear live "Baby, I'm an Anarchist"), keeping New Wave to a minium and the magical night ended with 8 Hours of Sleep.
The next night, on Thanksgiving night, they had a special acoustic set for charity at the Metro. And I'm thinking how can they top last night's show? By playing a shit load of old songs such as Impact, What We Worked For, Tonight We're Gonna Give it 35%, Wagon Wheel, and I think they even threw in Shit Stroll.
So you see, based on those two shows I thought they would find a balance to keep their old fan base happy (mainly keeping me happy) and somehow let MTV and the radio bring in the new fans with New Wave. That last show obviously proved my last thought full of nostalgia and naivety, but the previous 4 shows were promising and full of hope that they wouldn't make "things different and obviously they were bound to play a lot of their newer material because that's what most bands tour for; to advertise their product."
Now that I think about it, in 2007 when New Wave came out, I saw this band four times (once at Otto's near the Northern University Illinois campus), 1-2 months later at the Riv in the spring, and of course during Thanksgiving of that same year. Based on those four shows, there was no indication that Against Me! would turn into a true "Major Label" act. Of course, I was wrong, but whatever...

Dear shithead, this isn't happening. The sky is really falling, the paint's all made of lead, there's asbestos in the walls. Hell's coming to rip off the doors to your privileged heaven.
