i really like the roughness when she hits dose high notes that seemed to develop since wretches and is something wrong. i actually seem to be one of the few that prefers her recent output rather than earlier stuff, the songwriting has improved tenfold if you ask me and i just kinda prefer the full band aesthetic. been callin aoty for a few months, not gonna back down now. if the new wrens ends up comin out this year maybe that'll beat it actually but idk

i agree that the songwriting is much more complex on their new material, but i kind of enjoyed the
sparce indie-folk arrangements on "freshman year." its the same thing with bon iver for me, just
because there's more going on doesn't always mean its better. restraint can be a really powerful tool
in songwriting. and i really feel like her voice lends itself more to the folk-ier stuff, but honestly
i really do like their new stuff, going off of those two songs i'd say its about a 3.5-4. its not
really that i dislike her new vocal style, if it were anyone else i would really enjoy it, but her
voice on "freshman year" was so unique that its hard to swallow the change from what i've come to
expect from her. if that makes any sense.

yeah it does, but the original is embedded in my brain since I listened to nothing but this album for 2 and a half months, and this version is all I ever want to hear. "Laments" is one of my favourites from Get Disowned though. They're both such fantastic songs.
