What does having a record deal have to do with it?
You don't need an idea of music to write lyrics, just like you don't need lyrics to write music.
Anyone who has the balls to write their own lyrics can bash another artists writings. I, for one, despise Buddy's lyrics, Not so much on their new cd but on this one I view them as absolute trash. For the most part anyways. "Free Fall..." would actually be a pretty solid song, if it wasn't for the verses.

Dude ur a loser, martini kiss isnt even on this album. Anyway, I love this band. i liked them before many people knew about them and they are definatly one of my favorite bands.

This cd was ok. I think if any of the bands I'd been a part of in high school had worked out the way I'd hoped, I basically would've been recreating this type of stuff. I don't think it's really that original. And I really do think I could've been writing this kind of stuff years ago...most of it strikes me as very juvenile, especially lyrically. I still think Buddy is really immature. He just seems like a scene kid who was lucky enough to get where he is.

It is actually difficult to pinpoint why I like this debut EP as much as I do. The raw production, whiny vocals & occasionally awful lyrics suggest a release which fails to reach a passing grade. Yet, there is something evident here that makes it a worthwhile listen. It is sufficiently catchy, but not overly memorable… While the instrumentation is ok, without being technical. I dunno… Maybe it just comes together as a whole, or is mindless fun or something. Recommended Tracks: Free Fall Without A Parachute & One Eight Seven.
