I want to listen beyond Ashes, but I can't.

Bad start with the Protest the Hero hate...but this reveiw turns out quite well and makes me want to check this album out. The review reads more like a 5/5 especially seeing as there was not one negative comment about the album to be found in the entire review.

there's a couple of "for the most part" and "generally" lines that are meant to imply the album isn't perfect, but I don't want to talk about the problems since the vast majority of the record is so fantastic

PTH would bend you over backwards and pluck your teeth out with its brass one. end of story.

I like every band mentioned in your review - except for Mono. I just can't feel the mood... The best post-rock bands are still GY!BE and Explosions in the Sky. Maybe next time.
EDIT: I respect the band, though. It's just me and Mono aren't made for each other. This Message Edited On 03.25.09

I want to like this as much as their truly awesome 2006 release which Zebra got me onto. But not quite clicking for me yet.

This is a great, patient album.
I really don't think there are any post-rock bands that are 'the best'...only ones that try to push the genre further...and those who don't.

So I've come to a conclusion that this is the best of 2009 so far lol. This is breathtaking and simply amazing. The last four minutes of Everlasting Light take me to a place where only Lost Horizon had reached before.

Between the mp3 here and the review I'm very interested in this, will try to find it. I probably will also get You Are There if I like this as I think I should.

Very good stuff, solid 4. Going to have a hard time deciding the order between the albums of Mastodon, Isis, and Mono at the end of the year. The sheer beauty of this album seems to be giving it a leg up.
Follow the Map is so fucking beautiful and epic...and short. This Message Edited On 03.27.09

My previous comment is gay. This is better than any other album released this year, although for me the Thursday album is not far behind. Deserves a 4.5 and I must get You are There pronto..

Ashes in the Snow is probably my favourite song they've ever done

Seeing this band live a while ago was amazing. Haven't had the time to listen to this in full yet though.
