"Even though what Jondur said is some of the biggest BS i have ever heard"

Haha! Not the first time I've heard that!

Anyway I bought this album on the day it came out, hoping in desperation that "Enter Sandman" (which had been played a lot in advance) was not an indication of the rest of the album. Unfortunately it was.

Metallica, once a primal beast of barely restrained aggression had become a nice lap cat. nice Bon Jovi production, Hetfield beginning to croon rather than snarl, the bone-headed riffs ("OK guys lets take the good riffs we used to write and simplify them so middle America "gets it".)

Like some other people have said - I fail to see how a die hard Metallica fan can accept this as the same band. This is the very definition of selling out. Load was much better.

I reckon this album has it's great moments but there are other Metallica albums that are better than this by far (eg. Master of Puppets).

Tracks 1,2,4,5 and 8 are fantastic. This would be 5/5 for me, if the rest of the album was up to that quality. To me, the others re more or less uninteresting. This Message Edited On 12.19.05

Struggle Within is my favorite off this cd. Probably one of my favorite Metallica songs ever. Good Review.

Jondur, YOU ARE FULL OF CRAP

Metallica has been THE best band ever since this album was made! And the drums SUCK! Lars Ulrich is a piece of crap. Listen to damage inc. on MoP. He acually messes up! AND on the black album, he pretty much did the same simple beat on every freakin song. Hammet on the other hand is the best band guitarist on the plannet and James's lyrics kick.

Note to Final Origin; Stop trying to please everyone. You have an opinion!

This certainly isn't my favourite Metallica album (it's probably about 6th or something) but as albums go, you can't deny it's excellence. The songsmanship expressed on this record is second to none, and proves just how good of songwriters they are. As conventional rock, this album is the bees knees.

why does everybody like those songs.....i personally dont think theyre too great....well maybe the unforgiven, but enter sandman is boring as hell....the top three songs are, IMO, the god that failed, my friend of misery and dont tread on me

I think that those are three of the weakest songs on the album, except the God that Failed, I like that song.

I think The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam and My Friend Of Misery are very good in terms of song writing. Original too. And let's not so quickly rag on Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters because of their popularity. They are popular because they are good. Also, Holier Than Thou deserves more credit. It's a pretty choice cut.

Anyone else notice the word "angst" appears about 15 times in that review?

Interesting. Considering the album is hardly angsty. Don't Tread On Me is probably the angstiest thing on here.

On damage inc., you know how Lars uses the speed metal technique right?

On several riffs the beat gets backwards, and I know he does it on accident because he starts off doing it right for about 2 1/2 seconds, then it goes backwards.

I have to admit though, he did some cool s*** on Sanitarum and Ride the Lightning(the song)

Pardon the delayed response, I got banned
