Man, that Stray Cats show will be amazing. Brain Setzer is a frikkin God. Davey, if you're trying out trip-hop, check out Tricky - Maxinquaye and Blue Sky Black Death - Late Night Cinema.

If you want to get into trip-hop then get either Portishead's - Dummy or Massive Attack's - Mezzanine. Both implore different styles, I obviously enjoy Mezzanine immensely and I HIGHLY recommend it.

You're not getting lazy on us are you Ross? 3 weeks since you've written a review! But yeah, I guess you should have the album before reviewing it. Haha.

Thanks for the recos Alex & Marko. I was already leaning towards Marko's 2 recos plus 'Maxinquaye' and 'Third'. If I can cut straight to the chase, which of the 4 artists (or 5 albums) mentioned are the most accessible?

I was just reading that Ladyhawke is not far from touring the U.K as a support act for The Ting Tings. Gee, while there ae some similarities, I'm not so sure that is the perfect band for her to be touring with. Exposure is exposure I guess!

Hmm lazy, me??? naww just busy :D

To be honest it is because I am trying to make every single one of my reviews better than the last; pushing myself because I'd like to make Contributing reviewer at some stage. But yeah I'll be trying to get a review up soon, I don't wish to be perceived as lazy.

I seen this girl live and she was pretty good. Very funky with a really tight band. Great review, again.

hmm Davey I think the most accessible would be Mezzanine. Maxinquaye is extremely dark and brooding, his best by far. His last release Knowle West Boy was great imo (did a review on it). He still hasn't quite reached the pinnacle of his debut unfortunately.

Accessibility imo:
Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Tricky - Maxinquaye
Portishead - Dummy (idk it just took a few listens to appreciate its excellence).
I can't comment on the Blue Sky Black Death recommendation since I haven't heard of them or listened before.

Do you usually take 2 weeks to answer a question Marko? Just kidding mate.

I appreciate those accessibility rankings of trip-hop albums. Just a further question though; If you have heard 'Third', where does that rank?

haha yeah my bad I just noticed this after the comments being restored. Oh wow Third was I think in my top 3 albums of 2008. So yea its excellent. Ugh....such a tough question I'd rank it with Massive Attack and Tricky - probably below Tricky. Its a emotionally driven album like Tricky's work.

Well looking at my list of 2008 albums ranked (got a list, Third is ranked #1. @ 4.5/5). I really can't explain its allure since its not like Dummy in many ways, yet entirely Portishead esque. As stupid as it sounds I can't really explain it without listening to the two albums again. This Message Edited On 03.02.09

Thanks for the opinions Marko. I can sort of see how it is difficult to measure accessibility with these albums. Like you said earlier relating to 'Dummy', they probably all need a few listens to "appreciate their excellence". Oh well, if your opinion becomes less clouded after another listening session, let me know...

DavID, I didn't know such a tour was in the works, but it is a nice pairing. The Presets are hit and miss for me (most of 'Beams' puts me to sleep), so this one could be up to the better half.

Yea, to be fairly honest I didn't like Dummy at all in the beginning, but I stuck with it and listened to it a few more times and it grew on me amazingly quickly.

I just realised that I missed sickofantsid's comment. Great to hear she was pretty good live & it's practically just as great to hear that she does indeed have a full band with her on stage.

she doesn't pull a Jack White by playing every instrument herself? unimpressive

Hey, what about Meg?

From what I have been reading, Ladyhawke doesn't play every single instrument on every single song, as there are quite a few musical collaborators throughout the LP. However, for example, on one song she will play guitar & then on another she will play keys, etc, etc, etc...
