Bitches can't handle it.

I just think saying that a funeral doom album is 'boring' and that one 'lost interest', when one doesn't even listen to the genre, is a completely invalid criticism.

Well, then it's valid to note that it's inaccessible...?

^exactly. So how can you say it's "remarkably palatable for those who don't dabble in the genre" if people find themselves getting bored and you blame it on not being into the genre...kind of hypocritical...

Very easily. It's extremely accessible relative to its genre. I'm not claiming that anybody who isn't into funeral doom will immediately like this, but in terms of how uninviting funeral doom can be, Mournful Congregation, and particularly this album, is very palatable. I don't really care whether you like it or not but it's obvious that funeral doom isn't your thing and to make a comment saying it's a 'total flop' when you aren't into the genre is uncalled for.

Thanks for defining that but i think you should re-word that phrase, because "remarkably palatable" on its own means it's an easy listen, which this, as you pointed out, is only an easy listen compared to other Funeral Doom releases.

btw, I didn't say it's a total flop, I said it was saved from being a total flop because of the nice musicianship on some of the tracks. I can call it a total flop if it's entirely eneventful, boring and repititious, which most of this was. Anyway, 2* isn't that bad a rating...

btw, isn't funeral doom meant to work on atmosphere or something, this had none. Don't want to get into another argument but i will go out and listen to some more funeral doom and try to appreciate it...

I don't need to re-word it, because it's a given that I meant palatable relative to funeral doom. I mention that it is funeral doom several times, and I do not in any way imply that this is objectively an 'easy listen'.
As for it not being atmospheric, that's completely subjective. I thought the album had a lot of atmosphere.

I love monad too. I just seem to play this a lot more since it's a lot easier listen compared to most other doom releases. It makes it more of a constant in my rotation other than mood music. I'd say my favorite funeral doom albums would be both Worship albums, this, and anything by Esoteric that starts with an "M".

Yeah, this is far easier to listen to than a lot of other albums, even Monad. I'll make you a list of some other stuff for you to check out, give me a couple of minutes.
