pretty good review, not as good as your last one though.

This is clearly power metal, the only difference between this and your typical power metal band is that this has harsh vocals. It's laughable if you actually think that this is some sort of fusion of genres.

people here debate over Children of Bodom, whether they're melo death, power metal, or a mixture, lol. This Message Edited On 01.27.09

Only scenester faggots think Necrophagist is good.

For the most part, the writers here are *not* "VERY, very good" - they're mediocre. The only one I can think of off the top of my head whose writing is above-average is Cocaine.

"Epic" and "melodic" are not genres, or even subgenres. "Melodic" describes nothing more than a style in which a piece of music is built - you can have melodic jazz just as much as you can have melodic metal. As for "epic," that's even more worthless - it only refers to your feelings while listening to the music, and says nothing about the music itself. That's like saying that "angry" and "soothing" are genres. Or, since we're talking about Wintersun, "weepy homoeroticism." The review was fine, people just can't handle the fact that not everything they like is good. Nothing hurts as much as a shot to one's pride.

Unbeknownst to some who have commented, a little bit of controversy goes a long way in getting people to read the review, especially if I'm directly insulting them.

Seriously most of the staff writers and some of the regulars (Crimson, rasputin) are pretty good writers

idk, devsol is a fairly nice writer, one of the better ones we've had.

This review is pretty much that much better than anything i've written.

Some things make me think you're actively searching for reasons not to like it.

Furthermore, the melody that opens the song sounds unsurprisingly similar to the one that opened ‘Beyond the Dark Sun’, not two songs before. ‘Starchild’ then goes on to reintroduce us to this melody, though a slightly different variation, leaving one to wonder whether the entire album was based off the same composition and tweaked just enough so as to make it seem varied to the casual listener.

First of all, you must've been shitfaced out of your mind if you can hear a close relation between BtDS and Sleeping Stars. There is none to be heard. Now the melody in Starchild does resemble BtDS insofar that it's a tremolo picking based lick. Apparently you don't like tremolo picking.

While I'm not too much into Ensiferum and thus cannot make a valid judgement about Jari's musicianship in that band, it's plain ignorant to dismiss the compositions of orchestration and intricate guitarplaying as 'poor musicianship'. Despite that I totally agree his vocals aren't great (apparently he's pretty bad live as well).

Also your last paragraph is unprofessional, bitter and poorly constructed jab at the band that destroys any credibility you had thus far gained in your review. This Message Edited On 01.27.09

Review wasn't bad but needed more detail, ie, why was the drumming sub-par? Their drummer can definitely go but I personally found him overly technical and overpowering...w/e.
