Finding Forever is hardly among Common's best work but enjoying it does not mean the listener doesn't know hip-hop.

Soby you just have an elitist attitude, that shit doesn't coincide with hip-hop. If you're going to insult peoples tastes based on perfectly decent albums then you will find more similar company on a metal or punk board perhaps.

Elitists in hip-hop, they are referred to as 'haters' and are typically cast out of the community. While I don't agree with the common definition of the term hater, in an elitist sense, you very much are one.

Nah I don't troll, I'm never deliberately looking for an argument but they tend to find me quite often. And Soby I don't understand why its so difficult for you to realize how elitist your past statements in this thread have been. This Message Edited On 12.14.08

You go around hip-hop reviews trying to incite all these bullshit discussions about metaphors and the ideologies of the genre. It's irritating.

To label the discussion of metaphors and musical ideologies as you do is quite a claim, and I would like you to explain why you think such subject matter is 'bullshit'. Its better than the typical 'album sucks, review is good' 'bullshit' on this site. This Message Edited On 12.14.08

Great review, but I've lost interest in Common a long time ago. His rapping is blunt, like some sought of robot or something in constant playback. Lupe Fiasco is good, though. you can't deny he's one of the more intelligent rappers out today.

This review is very disappointing. I was hoping this would be good, now I know not to waste my time.

Its really not that bad considering what it is. A lot of artists do things like this late in their careers, you can't expect Common to be on that 'Resurrection' tip his whole life. Celebratory dance music is fun in small doses.

The review seems pained on account of Common's ignorance of his own style. Which is obvious, but as I said several artists do things like this. Its not a good album and its not a bad album, its just club music, you can't judge club music on the same scale as you can artistic music.

Didn't you basically try to do that exact same thing with Kanye West's new album? I mean, you told me it was "club pop" and then used that as your primary argument for it being bad. A troll and a hypocrite...cute.

I said this is "club music" but said its also really bad "club music"?

The thing about Kanye's album is him and none of his hardcore fans (which I'm sure you know, there are a lot of) do not believe 808s is just club music. People lately have been treating it as a piece of art, an accomplishment for hip-hop, a new age sensation. I mean...depth in that album is non-existent, lyrics are lazy as hell, beats are a night spent on Fruity Loops with some Gin N' Tonic save a couple nice ones.
