Firstly Brent; Great review. Insta-Pos.
Secondly, help me out a little here. I'm going to a festival in the new year and these guys are a potential see. I honestly haven't heard a great deal of their stuff. Who are a few bands you would most compare them to...??? Also, if you have seen them perform live, are they great, good, fair or poor...??? Finally, is this their best album...???

Imagine a really softened-down Underoath, except they borrow song structure from teh emo genre and place more emphasis on clean vocals and harmonies. one thing about them I really like is that there's no one who sounds quite like them.
Secondly, I've never seen them live... not in person. But from the recordings I've seen, they kind of suck. :-
Yes, this is their best and most accessible album.

Thanks guys.
The other review of this album also mentioned Thursday, but I see they were shot down by others. Are there similarities or not...???

To Thursday? Not really no...

Um..yeah not really thursday. I could see how kinda maybe. This band has a really cliche feel to it sometimes, but i like it.

ive seen them live, twice first time was alright but the second time (a year later) was killer so i'd say theyve really worked on their live show.
i wouldnt compare them to thursday really, theyre closer to pop punk tbh, but dont let that deter you

good review even with your whole soundtrack to my life thing this isn't very fanboyish I love emery and this cd is awesome

It actually isn't out of fanboyism...if you read the whole review I say several times that it might have simply been right album/right time kind of thing...I really enjoy their music but I'm far from a fanboy...now had this been a Coheed review...

Excellent review senor! it was an awesome read
It was interesting to see you get personal. Because i'm sure lots and lots of people have their deep attaching "album-of-the-moment" kind of thing.

Nice review, I'm currently...obtaining...the album.
Could you reccommend me any other Hardcore/Post-Hardcore bands like Underoath and I presume, this?
|

Glassjaw, isn't much like dis, but dey are pretty good dude, and old thrice, and this, and the fall of troy (old), and alexisonfire, and this, and yea i dunno, i threw some stuff out there though
im gonna get to listening to all of this sometime tomorrow, I love this band but for some reason haven't gotten to listening to an entire album by them, =(

you should check out as cities burn, theyre like underoath only a zillion times better

As Cities Burn is very good...Their old album is closer to post-hardcore in style and their new one is a lot more mellow but they are both excellent records...Showbread, Armor For Sleep, He Is Legend (old), From First To Last, and The Receiving End Of Sirens all have a wee bit of similarity to Emery, and they are all decent-excellent bands in their own right so check them out...

lol FFTL are decent? and some of those bands are excellent?
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
Older FFTL is pretty good...new FFTL is absolutely awful though...TREOS's Between The Heart And The Synapse is excellent IMO, as is He Is Legend's I Am Hollywood...Captain North asked for similar bands in post-hardcore to Emery so I simply listed the ones that I felt were related to Emery that I felt were decent bands...don't be hatin'
Not every band can be Kraftwerk you know ;)

thursday is probably the band that sounds most like emery. good review though and i love this album. my review was deleted because it was awful
