Yeah, Peter Steele is actually good at vocals, Tom Morello isn't.
Time to go back on his word about not writing new RATM material.
Good review though. This Message Edited On 10.08.08

What!?!?!?!?
| | | well what genre do you think they are?
| | | Not thrash.
| | | i like this album. it's surely not as good as his first, but i really enjoy tom morello in general no matter what he's doing. that sounds like a pretty fanboy thing to say, but he just plays things that i like to hear. while he doesn't pump me up like he does in rage, he still gets me going in a real peaceful way. his songs are more corny on this one, but he's a truely great musician in all.

oh dear god I hope you are joking

I actually rather enjoyed this album. I will agree many of the lyrics are rather questionable. Once you get past the bullshit left wing politics, it's actually a decent album. I liked it enough I just bought a ticket to see him tomorrow night in Vancouver. Hopefully he brings a full band along.

I always figured they didn't let him do vocals in Rage for a reason. His range is extremely limited and gets really monotonous after awhile, but I still say Morello has a good/decent voice.
Anyways, I'm torn between a 2.5 or 3 for this. He's improved the music substantially, but the album as a whole is fairly boring (save for the title track, Night Falls, and Saint Isabelle).
also, anyone else notice how much part(s) of Lights Are On in Spidertown sound like "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"?

Great album. Enjoyed the music and the lyrics. I went and got his other albums too, including RATM, Audioslave, and even Street Sweeper Social Club. As for the lyrics, they don't have to make sense or be understood. One of my favorite bands is Gypsy Kings and I don't understand a single word. As for his singing style, it doesn't need range and baritone works well with the style of folk. If you want to talk about shitty singers, have any of you listened to Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Neil Young, Lemmy, Tom Petty, and the list goes on and on...these guys all suck!! Although they have made great music and become rock legends, but they still suck as singers. As for political views, go for it. The country is all about free speech, as the world should be...does anyone remember John Lennon singing "Women are the niggers of the world"? How do you feel about him and his lyrics ability? Besides the line about drowning the president, also states "if the levee breaks again" and I would agree with that statement, I lost many friends that day and the days following. Good for you Tom, speak your mind, let the rest of them figure it out on their own.

This album is pretty underrated imo. Sure, there are a couple of really terrible songs but there are also some decent ones.
