if this album had the clean vocals of This Darkened Heart or tFoI it would be so much better. There are moments on this record where I can almost hear him hitting pitch changes that are similar to those that Matt Heafy makes under the direction of the same producer. At times it makes for a total album killer. I do love some of Oli's guitar work on this one though.

"the clean vocals sound far less processed and computerized"
Are you kidding? There is far more chorus/reverb effect on his vocals on this record than the previous two. Please explain what you are talking about because it only takes a few minutes of listening to the album to hear the overproduced clean vocals on this release. Seriously...do you not hear the immense amount of vocal production? You really don't hear the effects on his voice?

That was one of the biggest turn offs for me on tFoI. I hated the singing parts.

Thank you. I don't think he does anything out of the ordinary. Too glossy for my liking.

It was a sub-par album to me. A friend of mine is really into them and refuses to go deeper into metal (he's more into Silverstein, Bullet For My Valentine, etc. So I guess this eventually comes along the line.) and I try to introduce him some new music but this is "the best" to him when it comes to musicianship and cohesiveness.

Fortunately, I disagree and feel this album is right along the sames lines that you explained. Then again, I was never all too fond of these metal vocal styles (growl, sing, growl, sing.) Only type of "melodic" singing I'm really enjoying in Metal is that of say, Enslaved or Opeth. ..Makes me fee like they actually have a really nice voice, but that may just fall under preference...But as a vocalist, it falls short of being impressive to me.

The drums seem like they are on the same grounds as the previous album, perhaps a little less strong but enough to compliment the music.

I liked one song by this band though...I've heard all of This Darkened Heart and most of TFoI, and The Weak Willed was the only song that really made me go, "...This is a metalcore band?" The composition was put together really well but this just...lacks in various ways.

Singing on this album is still less post-processed. He may still be singing through a filter but the fact is he was 6500% tone deaf on TFOI and ll the touch-ups were obvious where on this one it's just overly glossy.

I don't get what everyones going on about...the guy CAN sing, he's not brilliant, but its not shit. Just standard, run of the mill, dude singing...with a strange backgroundy growl doing the same thing. This Message Edited On 09.22.08

Still haven't checked it out. I was a TFoI bandwagoneer :/ but I wasn't excited when I heard the first few released tracks of this.
Not expecting much.

Captain North, he definitely can't sing. He can sort of carry a tune now but before he didnt even come close.

The new production makes this sound "same-y" in the realm of metalcore. Two weeks gargles balls, Chiron's aight. Being a fan of TDH and tFoI, I think me and All That Remains should end our relationship here, y'know, and just reflect on all the good times we had together.... *sigh*

Curse.

I thought this was an alright album, nothing amazing, not at the level of The Fall Of Ideals, but respectable,

It apparently sold 29,000 in its first week though, which is impressive for a metal band, no matter how you look at it.

I Actually pre-ordered this record after i heard Relinquish and Chiron on their myspace(before the album leaked) but unfortunately, those 2 were part of the highlights of the album. Now i almost regret buying it but oh well, it's not that bad of an album. It's good but a huge letdown. This Message Edited On 09.25.08

They really stepped up with the clean singing in the album. So far, the album isn't sounding too bad.

Finished the last song and I say that it was decent. Although, it's a departure from Fall Of Ideals, which I need to take a listen to.

I honestly have to wonder if we are listening to the same band....

Someone else needs to write a good 2/2.5 soundoff for this since apparently no one liked mine.
