The riffs on this are catchy and heavy. The drums are solid (at least), and the solos work for the songs even if it's cool now to talk shit about them. Most metal lyrics are stupid so I'm not too worried about that aspect of it. It's not an overreaction to a tolerable Metallica album, it's just really good.

Quite surprising, but I think people are making this out to be better than it actually is. Still very good though, I expected it to be crap. Cyanide is the worst song or close enought, sucks so badly. I think All Nightmare Long is my fav of this. This Message Edited On 09.12.08

^ So true.
The initial surprise after listening to it for the first time has worn off a little. It's good but some of these songs are awful.

It's a solid attempt at mixing the old days with the new, however I feel it falls a bit short. Still a great album, but not as amazing as everyone is making it out to be. I think they're letting the initial surprise of the CD dictate their rating.

Yeah, I think people are so surprised and happy that this doesn't suck that they are getting kind of carried away.

I have been listening to this a lot. It's really nice to see them return to their roots and release another kickass album.

I really love this right now, and yeah All Nightmare Long is my favorite too. Replace Suice and Redemption with The End of the Line and you have my top 4, but I also really love Cyanide tbh. Least favorites are The Day That Never Comes, Unforgiven III, and My Apocalypse.

I really like The Day That Never Comes...its kind of a not so good Fade to Black (but nothing will ever match that)

Least favorites are The Day That Never Comes The first time I heard that song I was watching the video for it, so maybe that's why I really enjoy this song now.

Those 4 songs you suggested are instant classics. Rest of the songs on the album are okay, listenable, and much better than most of load - st. anger, but those 4 you suggested are what make this album good. I always knew James was able to write some good crunching riffs like in the 80s, and this kinda proves it.

^^ just okay and listenable? doesn't sound all that 'superb' to me.

"and the solos work for the songs even if it's cool now to talk **** about them."
So you think that people think they're "cool" for pointing out the fact that the solos were tasteless and sloppy? I don't think so.
