oh yeah, the Iranian band. I've only had a listen or two, not enough to fully take it in, but the review of it that's already on here passes it off as amazing. It's pretty damn good. I listed the good ones on my "New Music" list along with some stuff I've bought. This Message Edited On 09.11.08

oh I didn't see that, I'll have a look now.

yeah, I noticed after it was too late that those two bands were the only one's I put on the list. I haven't actually added the other good ones from that package to my iPod yet. Oops. Anyway, Colosseum is really damn good.
On topic though, I still can't get into this. Those growls still ruin 2/3 of the album. This Message Edited On 09.11.08

Really? I had this conversation with some other guy earlier on, the growls barely make up a third of the album, and I don't think they're that bad. The reason they're like that is because the band used to play black metal before spontaneously switching to funeral doom, so I think that's a bit of a leftover from their past.

As the other guy who you had this conversation with earlier (I believe), I think the growls are starting to grow on me a little bit...at least they aren't as grating as before...
|
| |
yeah it was you :P
The way I see it is that the harsh vocals are not anything to write home about, they could be better but they could be worse, but they really don't have anything against the awesomeness of the female vocals. The third track is 20 minutes long and has no harsh vocals, that's like a an easy third of the album there.

Haven't gotten to the third track yet, just haven't had time haha...
|
| |
Oh ok, well give that a listen when you get a chance, it's very good.
|
| |
Well, they ruin the first two songs even if they're only used sparringly. I'm still trying though!
|
| |
hmm seemed to have missed this review. ive been looking for m ore funeral doom, so ill check this out

Might I suggest Colosseum as a second place to look if this isn't your thing... I'm loving it. It's listed on the site as: Colosseum [Fin]. The one album listed is great.

Colosseum have a new album due out I think late this year or early next year, should be good.
Listening to this now, so good.

I gave up on this album. The growls were too much and mixed too high. Thanks for the news on the new Colosseum album though.

Yeah, it's called Chapter 2: somethingsomething. Fair enough about this, the vocals do get a bit annoying sometimes.

I just noticed me, you, and Crysis have 70 reviews a piece. Well me 69 without the crash but it's amazing to think we've contributed at least 100, most likely more metal reviews alone. On another note, do you know some quality doom/black with good production? I dislike Forgotten Tomb.
|
| |
Yeah, we're really getting up there in numbers. I don't really know many other blackened doom bands, there's Nortt but I think you already know them. To be honest, Forgotten Tomb is pretty much the best blackened doom I've heard.

haha, that's why you need to be a little cheeky sometimes!

eh, vocals weren't that great in my opinion, plus I didn't get anything out of listening to it except "hmm I wonder what movie I should watch instead of listen to this"
