It is a petty that Zeeb Parkes's vocals lets me down, because instrumentally, the album is awesome.

I love the vocals, they fit the band's sound perfectly. Couldn't imagine anyone else singing this, 'cept maybe Ozzy in his prime.

Apart from Black Sabbath, is this the first doom metal album?

Pentagram were playing doom in the 70's but they didn't release an album as such back then, only singles, demos etc.

I think this was the first doom metal release and the others including Pentagram, Trouble or St. Vitus

came 2-3 years after this one.

Good info Jamie didn't know that. Probably there were a few bands playing doom in the dawn of the 70s but with the rise of glam and punk, such albums weren't released. Just a hypothesis.

if i remember rightly pentagram failed to get a record deal for so long mainly due to bobbys drug habits.

@manosg: Yeah Pentagram were formed as early as 1971. You can here their 70's material on the compilation album called First Daze Here.

I think you're right Moose.

"Apart from Black Sabbath, is this the first doom metal album?"

Could be, but 4 me the first true Doom Metal records were Psalm 9 and Saint Vitus's S/T.

Pagan Altar also released their first album that year although it was nothing more than an independent

release in the form of a casette.
