It's always sad to see how short sighted the fans of the genre are, which is why it's taken so long for this kind of music to get bigger.

Good luck with your "top albums" lists kids. I hope that you all slap your disturbed, slipknot and bring me the horizon albums on there, no need to buy anything else....
all sarcasm aside, I just hate to see talented bands, whom are trying to break away from the standard...lets say Killswitch, As I Lay Dying, style and do something a little more unique. Granted not completely original, but at least if their going to be borrowing concepts it's from better bands.

MTTS i was being sarcastic.
Most of the metal fans here have wet dreams over those bands thqh.

I seem to have missed it, ahh well, the shame is mine lol.
I just don't get how Veil of maya, born of osiris, the faceless, after the burial etc. get lumped into "deathcore" or any of the other stupid genres. Whenever I hear the term "deathcore" I think carnifex and suicide silence first and foremost.
btw, for anyone that cares, the new All Shall Perish album is decent. Better than the last. I've give it a good 4-5 listens now and have yet to get really mad.

one word: Breakdowns. I've noticed any newer band with chugga-chugga breakdowns instantly gets tagged with the "core" tag when Suffocation has been doing the same shit for years. This Message Edited On 07.25.08

one word: Breakdowns. I've noticed any newer band with chugga-chugga breakdowns instantly gets tagged with the "core" tag when Suffocation has been doing the same **** for years. well i don't know about newer Suffocation, but when they used to incorporate breakdowns in their music, it wasn't the focal point like so many of labeled "deathcore" bands today. the latter thrive off their breakdowns and often times their music simply builds up to it. Suffocation used their breakdowns in transitions often and never as the focal point or build-up of a song (when i say never i say it loosely as i only listen to 2 of their albums.) know what i sayin though? just seems these new "deathcore" bands write songs around the breakdown while old school death metal bands like Suffocation simply incorporated them into their music

I disagree with some of the newer bands though.
The faceless I don't think uses the breakdown as a focal point, nor does veil of maya, I think their guitar work for both bands and drumming, especially drumming is what really makes them stand out.
After The Burial, it's kind of essential to their writing being that their so Meshuggah influenced, which isn't bad, b/c they've managed to bring together melody and that not breakdown but low tuned patterns together and make it fairly seamless.
Born of Osiris uses the breakdown somewhat as a crutch I think, but all in all they are all very talented anyway you look at it, and all 4 of those bands out play the majority of their peers.
They aren't bringing a bunch of new elements to the table, just doing something fun with whats been done and at least reviving a little excitement in modern metal...for me that is.
I apologize if I came off as a"metal no it all." I just hate to see the few shining pinnacles of metal get dismissed when the genre has never been so stale and boring. I blame the internet, any half ass metal band can write music, inspiring more half assery in children, and renewing our plates with regurgitated half ass bands. WHAHAHAHHAH!

The faceless I don't think uses the breakdown as a focal point i agree but i never really considered them "core" at all. i love them they just feel like technical death to me

Yeah I'm sure these guys are way better live. Everyone who plays this style of music usually is.
Doesn't change the fact that this album is pretty disappointing though.

These guys suffer what I like to call "Veil of Maya syndrome"...they have totally awesome riffs, but can't write an entire song to save their life thanks to their overdone, stale breakdowns. This Message Edited On 08.05.08

Of course there's worse bands than these guys, but I don't feel that makes this album any less tedious.

I agree these guys are like Veil of Maya in that they over-do the breakdowns. Both of their albums have 3 breakdowns on the first track, and do use them in excess throughout. They're still young, and once the deathcore phase dies out these guys hopefully will have matured enough by then to produce Arsis-esque albums (no breakdowns, great riffage, etc.)
