good review and all, but jesus, am I the only one here that finds this to be more than

a little cheesy and very repetitive? Perhaps this is the nature of the beast (Viking

Metal), but i didn't find this to be nearly as impressive as everyone else does. This Message Edited On 07.22.08

Cheesy is way too general of a term tbh, you can apply that to almost any type of metal depending on your tastes.

edit: Like I know some people would/do consider some forms of black metal cheezy, some doom, much of power metal ect. Cheesy is a relative term. This Message Edited On 07.22.08

Yeah i didnt really think of it as cheesy either. I can see why people would think so, but it's too grand and epic to be cheesy imo.

This is a geat listen, but just too symphonic, id like guitars and drums to be at forefront more..Not cheesy, but quite over the top on the viking battle symphonies.

What? Thats the whole point. Its called VIKING METAL. The viking battle parts are supposed to be the main parts.

There's a lot of sweet riffs and interesting drum work to be found here. If it were at the forefront, this wouldn't stand out all that much from all the other music of this type that's out there. It's better BECAUSE it backgrounds the main instruments in favor of a sound bigger than the sum of it's parts.

the most epic album ever.

Nothing beats Once or Dark Passion Play in terms of epicness. As for Once, no other album beats that completely.

The orchestrations flow better on DPP than this. This is due to the fact that Tuomas had been working with orchestras for 4 years before the initial recordings of DPP. This band will only get better hopefully, and that will be scary.

First one is really good as well, it flows perfectly, just like this album, so it's really awesome that they managed to keep that level of cohesion. I'm with Poet, you never can tell, but I've got a feeling that the next thing this band does will be the greatest metal album ever, especially if they mix in a few more softer/slower sections that were more present on their first album. There were also some really nice female vocals that I don't miss here, but would only be good thing if they were to use them again.

Yeah hopefully the next album will be just as good as this. I think they should use some clean male vocals though. That would just make them even more epic.
