okay, to be a bit nitpicking, but i found the review to describe a 2.5 or even 3 rated album...before the last paragraph which just opened up on unneeded and often uncalled for criticism.

I understand that you found the album underwhelming, but it seemed you forced a lower rating than you originally projected.

It's got the same dreamy feeling the music has. Granted I find this album pretty boring by SR standards, but I certainly see where they are going with it and it fits the band.

It couldn't be more obvious that he did. Look at his user rating of the album at 2.5. It was just for the contest.

on the album cover...the obvious homosexual connotations dont necessarily bug me. Its more the forced removal of their previous artwork style for something a little more "happy". I found the chilling covers of ( ), Agaetis Byrjun, and takk... to be much more fitting

[quote=planewreck]It fits the music rather well. Purity, I guess? A sense of freedom and recklessness, in-the-moment sort of love for life that I think Sigur Ros have always tried to portray.

Well, since i havent heard this one yet i cant exactly say, but i always felt their previous work was much more claustrophobic and searching for hope, rather than already found it.

Pretty sure the only reason you had the balls to post your (terrible) Protest review is because of the contest.

You'll be waiting a long time for a review by me, if I even post one.

My point was that he gave it a rating he didn't even think it deserved just to be eligible for the contest. See: his user rating for it which is a 2.5. I didn't do that so I'm not sure if you are HighandReading or what but seriously, comprehend things you read.

You'll be waiting a long time for a review by me, if I even post one.

Oh I know, that was something called sarcasm. It's clear you are only here to go around bashing other people's reviews. I'm sure it is because you are better than everyone else though, and not because you know you couldn't write a good one. This Message Edited On 07.10.08

I dont get all the hate for this album. It's different but it doesnt suck at all. I find it pretty amazing. The vocal especially. Songs like Ara batur or Festival are instant classic. The opener and the second track are moodriser...so happy. The only song I cant stand is the closer(All Alright). Cant get into it.

foreverendeared, i have actually bought the other albums first (well, except Von (which i can't find) and the EPs), but i'm thinking i'll give them more time to sink in before i get this one.

as far as the artwork goes McP3000, the only one i'd really call "chilling" would be ( ). the whole alien foetus with angel wings on agaetis strikes me as kinda playful and innocent, and overall rather upbeat. and the takk artwork seems kinda earthy and naturalistic, with only the slightest hint of darkness in the figure under the branches. i quite like the artwork on this one, it screams "freedom" without trying to court controversy by showing the view from the other side of the road...

As much as I don't like the review's ideas, and I'm really not down with the armless retard analogy, it has its good moments in terms of writing. Thus, I'm not going to neg it.

i thought it was a bad review, and here's why. you're not giving an indication of the album's impact as a separate entity; your opinion of it seems entirely dependent on the rest of the band's catalogue

most people do this, granted. but i think it's an erroneous way of approaching music

^Of all the reasons to neg it you choose a reason that by your own admission "most people do"?

Meh I guess, but I suppose he's going to be negging 80 percent of this website's reviews.

Or maybe "Most people are bad writers- yeah I know it's kind of a bad excuse."

ilikemusicthatsucks, am I bad at interpreting sarcasm or did I miss something. I've always had this rated at a 2. :S

istaros, after reading the review again I can see why you'd think that actually. I might edit in another paragraph to make it clear why I think this is boring without mentioning the earlier work, just one of my main issues is that it's too reliant on what they already know. Thanks for the advice. Shame about the neg, but at least there's some help with it.

And MCP, I'm pretty sure my review didn't make the album come across as 'good', what a 3 would have implied, even before the last paragraph, and I don't quite get what part of the last paragraph was 'unneeded' or 'uncalled for'. That was just a sum up of my feelings. I can understand why you might have saw the review as going for a 2.5 though, so yeah, I will edit in another paragraph. This Message Edited On 07.11.08
