Hmmm, I just love the sound of each individual song. They are all fresh and different and are incredible, as I said, within and outside the genre. This is black metal at its finest.
But whatever mang, if you don't like it that much, more power to ya :thumb:

The title track stands out the most, the rest are still great though.

One of the most interesting bands, historically speaking, I have ever encountered. Interestingly enough, I have yet to hear a single song they have done.

Check them out then. Check out something from this or Deathcrush first.

The story behind this band is pretty hilarious. "dead was found dead" is a classic news headline.

Its good, but not as great as everyone thinks it is. Nowhere near the best Black Metal album ever. This cant even compare to Nattens Madrigal, Transilvanian Hunger, or Dusk And Her Embrace.

This way outdoes all of those albums. This is the defining black metal album imo. Amazing riffs. Almost all these songs are classics.

It's ok... I think I'm one of the few that likes Grand Declaration and Chimera much more then this...

Grand Declaration has some decent stuff, but a lot of it is just weird and not well-executed.

There's a lot of dead space on that album that should have been edited out, but it's still my favorite (when the "Forward" button is used to pass the dead air)...

Overrated, but good nonetheless.

Clearly a great record - it isn't Mayhem's fault that the style they helped to popularize has been fine-tuned and redefined over the years. It's true that this doesn't quite stand up to the best the genre has to offer nowadays, but none of those records would be there without Mayhem's early stuff.

I agree. This album and Mayhem in general have always been overrated. They're good, but they get too much credit. The only reason they are as well known as they are is because of all the controversy that used to surround them.

I've really been getting into this album lately. I had to raise to rating from 3.5 to 4.5. I never thought much of this album for a long time. I guess it just had to grow on me.

You do realize that Euronymous pretty much started second-wave black metal right. If anything this band deserves more credit. I still think this album stands up to the test of time. I maintain that it is the greatest black metal album closely followed by Paysage d'Hiver.
It still has its own unique sound, classic riffs that define the genre, and the perfect atmosphere for what they were doing. I just love how almost every riff on this album is just perfect and the drumming is still top-notch to this day. Euronymous had a gift for writing great and simple yet hypnotizing riffs. The bass is actually audible through much of the album too.
Yep, I'm a fanboy of this album
