Hmmm...
Fire = Water > Air > Earth
I can't really choose between Fire and Water, because they're both so solid, IMO. Water is so beautiful, but the Fire disc pretty much got me heavy into Thrice ("Firebreather" is among the 10 songs I've listened to most this year).
Air...I don't think I could get as deep into Air as most people, but it has definite stand-out tracks ("Daedalus," "Broken Lungs," etc...). Earth...I really like Earth, but as someone bodominflames said, there aren't really any stand-out tracks. Even "Come All You Weary" (perhaps the most "Single" sounding song of the entire collection) isn't out of place...not really bad, but it makes Earth seem less a contender for which one's the best not having any stand-out tracks to give it points.
I will say, though, that I thought Earth and Air did better to let the music portray the element rather than make a reference on every single song. And yeah...Vol. III and IV will almost certainly make it onto my year-end list.This Message Edited On 11.02.08

I'm so pissed this review got killed in the database crash. That terrible warispeace review has 22k views, which means people link from google to that review and stuff. Gross. Not a good representative.

In the last couple of months, Thrice has enchanted me. 4,5 to this one. Earth goes above the air, fire & water.

After listening to the first 2 volumes these 2 really disappoint me. My favorite tracks off the Alchemy Index were from Fire, Firebreather, The Messenger and The Arsonist are my favs. When I listen to Thrice I want to hear stuff like that and simliar to Hold Fast Hope. I'm just not a big fan of the acoustic songs, I need the hard, heavy riffs and these volumes just do not bring it. The overall Alchemy Index was a great idea and seems to be very popular with other people just not me. No offense to Thrice this was just not my style. I think the worst off the entire Index was Earth. The best obviously being Fire.

You are a hard Thrice fan obviously. Best of that type is Paper Tigers without question.
Thrice is a band that can do both sides of the fence very well. I really loved this one, far better than the first Alchemy Index. I think this Alchemy Index has been quite underrated because it has strayed farther from the usual Thrice than the first one, or anything else they have done for that matter, and people didn't seem to adjust well to that change, kind of like you.
I love both sides of Thrice the soft and the hard, even when I tend to lean toward the soft side more. They can consistently do amazing music, and that's pretty much what I ask for really. Excellent music and consistency.

With good reason. Earth is like the best part of TAI.

I agree.

Air is, earth is a close second though.

Both are amazing in their own way and both are better than the first 2, although Water is not far behind.
