You may be the stupidest fanboy of any band I have ever seen, and I have seen hiprockrules and eminemisahack.

They've been doing it for 35+ years
Great. Too bad they only have five good records show for it, though.

Metallica have at least 4, maybe 5 if you're feeling generous. Priest having five sounds about right (Painkiller, Screaming, Unleashed in the East, Sad Wings, and Stained Class). But this is all beside the point; fanboys suck.

Anyone who is giving this album a rating of a 'two' after hearing it only once shouldn't be reviewing music at all. You picked the wrong hobby, buddy. This is Judas Priest's first progressive, concept album and it is extremely dense. There's a lot of musical ideas going on here. There's no way that a person is going to uncover even a small fraction of them upon the first spin. The last recording was an amazing comeback and their best since the late 70's. I've only heard the new one once and I'll be reserving judgement until I've heard it a dozen times. A rush to judgement is the mother of all fukc-ups. Just by reading this one review, I can tell that the author has absolutely no sense of Rock history and a truly bad ear for music. This is the type of guy who loves the Ramones and Bob Dylan, but absolutely does not 'get' progressive rock records. He likes things simple. Like himself.

Mike never said he heard it only once.

Opinion, not fact.

Read my first answer.

Your argument revolves around him only hearing it once, which is most probably false. You are an idiot.

I'm not going to lie I listened to this about 50 times every day and my AP Journalism teacher is a big Judas Priest fan and she plays it in class like everyday so I know what I'm talking about.

The last recording was an amazing comeback and their best since the late 70's.

If you heard it a bunch of times than your review is valid and I'm sorry about the simple comment. It's just that I've read too many reviews coming out of people on the same day they've received the work to be considered. Also, the fact that we don't have a mere collection of songs here, but a progressive-concept album is an added element which warrants much more attention than a bunch of unrelated songs. A concept album has everything to do with the flow and bridging between songs. I'd like to know what you thought of Iced Earth's Framing Armageddon. I also disdain the unfairness people direct towards artist' discographies in general. Very little respect is doled out where it's due. I think that 'Angel of Retribution' was about the truest return to form you could have expected out of these guys. Almost every track on there is catchy and some like 'Judas Rising' are outright classic. I'm the type of fan who thinks that 'Sin after Sin', 'Stained Class' and 'Painkiller' are the band's best and not 'British Steel', 'Screaming for Vengeance' and 'Defenders of the Faith'. Although I find something appealing about just about everything. It's like the dude above who says tht Metallica only had three good albums. I assume he's discounting 'Justice' and the 'Black Album'. Where if these same records appeared in any other band's discography they would be hailed as the best thing that group has ever done.

That's great my friend, but honestly you appear to be working yourself up. If you feel so strongly about the negativity about this album in this review, then write a counter review, expressing your valid opinions. Debate is certainly welcome, but don't consider that this review is the only way to approach this album.

Uh, not really, unless by more attention you mean "more scrutiny," because concept albums have to not only work as songs but as a whole. Just because a band makes a rock opera doesn't excuse them from having to write good material.

I'd like to know what you thought of Iced Earth's Framing Armageddon.

Not directed at me, but that album is atrociously dull and its only remotely saving grace is Tim Owens. It's the perfect example of how concept albums often fail on both levels, as individual songs and as a whole.

How was it a return to form? If anything, it perfectly pointed to the direction they'd take for this album; epic structures, longer songs, pushing guitars to the front to make up for Halford's diminished voice (he sounds better here than he did on Angel, though). People called it the logical follow-up to Painkiller pretty much because they had no other option; the Ripper era took a hard left into some strange and awful territory. It just didn't suck like those albums is all.

You stand to be corrected good sir! If upon first listen you find yourself going, "This has been done before", why even bother listening to it again? You might as well listen to the album that the band is leaning on for musical ideas. I can't say that so much about this album though (cause it does sound like Judas Priest). It just lacks uniqueness and anything musically interesting.
