I've never met anybody complaining about Aaron's vocals. Yes, he is quirky and eccentric, but the majority of fans worldwide praises his vocal performance. I've met plenty of people that have complained about Aaron's clean vocals. They're an acquired taste - something that even metal fans probably slowly have to get used to.Remove the lead guitars and the overall "progressive" character of TAatDR and you have LGotS. That's a pretty substantial alteration to make in order to make your comparison. Remove the lead guitars and the progressive character of Amorphis and you have Gorefest.Otherwise, one couldn't/wouldn't find the whole album uploaded on YouTube. Try one day and listen the YT links of that album and read the comments below. I mean, why would someone upload a song on YT if he/she didn't like it at all? as for Heroin Chic, listen to the cover MFB made for Portishead's Roads. The definitely knew what they were doing with that song and with Heroin Chic. Just because it's on youtube doesn't mean it's great. I'm not disputing that there are fans of this album, but I still believe that there are more people that dislike it. They might have known what they were shooting for with Heroin Chick and they might have been able to fool the metalheads that only know of trip hop through watching House re-runs, but that song is terrible. They failed.

ok, we agree that we disagree :-D
Failure in art is not a "black or white" issue, though.

Failure in art is not a "black or white" issue, though. It is when they're attempting something specific like emulating another artist. If I try to emulate Salvador Dali's style and it comes out looking like a paint-by-numbers POS then I've failed, whether or not people still like it despite my failure. ;)

I saw this for sale in a used bin a while back. Should I have bought it for a laugh?

It's not funny, unfortunately. A good terrible album to buy for a laugh is Mad Grandiose Bloodfiends by Ancient.
