It starts to sound really samey after a while.

They tried to go for some more complex song structures, but that ended up hurting a few parts. Can't say it sounds samey, but I've listened to this a lot.

This one took time to grow on me. The first couple listens were kinda boring, as I said cuz everything sounds a little similar. The intricacies started to show up later on.

Easily prefer this to anything after Draconian Times

Even the newest few? I haven't heard them completely, but they sound pretty damn good.

Newest 3 are better than shades easily

Compared to Gothic - yeah, I guess you could say the production is better but on its own merits it doesn't amount up to much. The lower end is sorely missing, which is especially dissapointing on a relentless assault like "Mortals".

Bass is pretty cool on "Pity the Sadness", but overall I prefer the sound from Gothic for the atmosphere and that guitar tone was rather awesome. Anyway, last four albums are better than this.

I missed Idol and Plague for the most part, no more than an introductory listen for each. I appreciated that one song on Plague, which was old-school death-doom at it's purest, Beneath Broken Earth.

Requiem and Faith were pretty solid though, especially the openers and the title-tracks on both of those.

Yeah, they have come full circle with Plague. Wonder what they'll do next.

I'm surprised at how """bad""" this is received on this site, just look at all the 3s and the reviews (a 3.5 and a 2.5). Personally I think this is a pretty fantastic album, accompanied by great production values and an iconic artwork. Everything sounds so good here, just take Crying for Eternity as an example. Guitars and vocals especially are a total pleasure to listen to. Songwriting also is quite engaging, love the calm parts.

Jammed to this today "Crying For Eternity" and "As I Die" rips hard. For me the best of the early doom PL records.

After the overrated Gothic, this was an improvement.

Still a very good album in its own right.
