Its good, but not great. I felt a 3 was appropriate seeing as the album sounds flat as hell. I wish Ihsahn would put some more punch into the production.

I think album is just not interesting, maybe from the technical point of view it is, but thats not enought. Sorry for bad English, I m from Slovakia, and I really want to ask you guys, where can I download or somehow listen to star of ash. In my country it is impossible to find it. thanks

Still dont want to rate it until I hear it a few more times but I'm still unimpressed by this.

Anthems, Promethius, Adversary are all far better than this.

I am disappointed with this album, especially the vocals.

I wouldn't cal it safe tbh dude, i really enjoy it. But it isn't as hard hitting as it could be admittedly.

From the moment I read that Ihsahn’s sophomore solo release was to be titled angL, I struggled to keep a straight face. Call me shallow, but I just couldn’t expect an album with such an atrocious title–akin to some sort of bizarre post-modern nightclub circa 1998–to be anything but loleriffic.

He'll never release anything thats as good as In the Nightside Eclipse or Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk ever again.

From my point of view, I was not a fan of Ihsahn or Emperor before angL, and I started getting into it through this album, and I kind of liked it!

I agree about the flatness of it.. there is something missing. This could be much better. I guess that is what The Adversary had, right? This sounds a bit over produced at moments. They kill it with that.

That being said, Scarab is an awesome song! I really enjoy the sound of the vocals on this particular track. The piano break is good. I think the music is good, maybe the production fell short. This Message Edited On 01.05.09

Not "safe". Just more focused than the adversary.

Will check it out, sounds disappointing. I liked The Adversary (well, around half of it, the rest of it was completely forgettable.)
