Opeth is my favourite band but that quote from Mikael kinda made me lose all the respect I had for him.
Claiming that they sounded like agalloch 10 years ago is simply retarded.
I hope for a linky of your source because I simply cannot believe He (yes I capitalized that) could ever say something so idiotic.
People should really stop comparing those bands.

dont know what quote you're taking about, but im pretty sure you're taking it completely out of context
i mean he's always joking about and I've never heard him shit on another band before

That's why I need a source to believe it.
It's one of the last comments on the first page.

your review really hits the spot with how i feel about this album! i think the points you make
regarding agalloch's 'less is more' approach also applies to some of the other post-metal scene. The
band isn't trying achieve what opeth does, true, but because the soundscapes are very similar you
cant really avoid the comparison. And if the soundscape is what is being sought after then opeth beats
them on every level. Alot more nuance and texture. As a drummer, i agree the drumming is adequate on a
professional level, and sometimes that's all thats needed, but in this case since the band is trying
to achieve a nuanced sound-scape the overly direct dynamics and patterns drumming limits this. Still
there some great melodies strung together throughout the record that i think it deserves a high rating
than average

A certain amount of virtuosity is to be expected of black metal? Really?

"Pale Folklore makes this sound mediocre.
I enjoyed this review when you had it posted before. It feels to me that its the most accurate one out of the bunch. Alot fanboyism surrounding this band."
And for good reason. It's not like they innovated the black metal scene in America or anything.
