"Nightwish has gaping holes in the songs I've heard. Like, really really noticable ones. Also, they really aren't that epic. Or good. "

"Go listen to Ghost Love Score, and tell me they aren't epic. "

Thats what I have heard from Once besides "Wish I had an Angel".

Well, I mean, it was epic. It was half-decent. But it had some really noticable gunshot wounds imo. If I remember correctly, the whole LOTR-gone-metal was cool, but the breakdowns were weak and it felt that some parts should have been cut out and it could have been hard hitting all around. It would catch me and throw me back into the water, again and again.

The faked emotion is kind of obnoxious though. I don't think one can channel feeling through such flat-out crappy lyrics. Same deal with Comalies though, in quite a few parts. What happens if they become a *GASP* Hot Topic band?!

Techically, Tarja is wonderful and Christina isn't as much. Christina is passionate though and doens't get on my nerves with the delivery. I even LIKE operatic vox, something about Tarja and Nightwish sux to me though to be honest.

You just gotta get used to it.

Either way, if you still don't like them, you can go burn in hell.

=P

Have you listened to anything from Oceanborn, by any chance? There's some unbelievable riffs throughout that whole album.

Emmpu can really play from Nightwish and Tuomas’s keyboards are great, Tarja’s vocals take a while to get into but you’ll eventually fall in love with them. You have to listen to the melody Tarja creates with her voice it’s excellent. Listen to Dead Boy’s Poem, with that David Gilmour like solo and what a melody her voice has. Then the drumming is superb and the keyboards rock. If you buy Nightwish get Wishmaster, it’s an album you have to listen through in entirety. It’s like scanning Dark Side of The Moon, you won’t find a single good track unless you listen to the entire thing.

Anywho the dudes vocals on here really suck and don’t even compare to the male vocals of Nightwish. The guitars sound so distorted and just rumble out and the drums sound like crap. There are no solos on this album and yet they have two guitars? The only saving grace is this girl’s powerful voice, it’s not as trained as Tarja’s from Nightwish but it’s a good metal voice. Really Tarja from Night wish (an opera singer) trains her voice 13 hours a day. She doesn’t even push her true range and this person from Lacuna Coil sings the same four or five notes. This band relies on studio effects and doesn’t even deserve to be called Symphonic Metal, really there has to be more rhythm and more something resembling a Symphony to be called Symphonic Metal. If you enjoy guitars that just produce a mass amount of noise most of the time and an occasional nice sounding keyboard part along with a slew of studio effects that sound like a violin is slurping a milk shake while someone talks about there life decaying into bits and really doesn’t go anywhere from there then this album is for you.

The album was recorded very well and someone in the band has an occasional nice touch and the singer is good but that’s all. No solos, terrible lyrics, nothing anywhere near a symphony, this is nu-metal with a creative keyboardist and a good singer. Fire the guitarist, bass player and drummer and get someone who actually has an interest in making a name for themselves on there instrument and you’ll have a good band. Nightwish is a much better bet, or Children of Bodom, but really this band blows. Misewell just be the singer, keyboardist and a drum machine. It all focuses around the singer instead of the band as a whole, that is where the mistake lies.

Lacuna Coil isn't Symphonic Metal, buddy. It's gothic metal. :thumb:

Gothic metal typically doesn't focus on solos much...it's all about creating an atmosphere. Which Lacuna Coil does quite well.

Yes, the guitaring is quite simple, but if it was more complicated, the band would lose much of what they are all about. They're a good break from some of the more complex stuff we all listen to. It's good to just sit back and listen to something simple.

This album is alright, but I have to say it is nowhere near as good as "Unleashed Memories", and maybe slightly worse than "In Reverie"...

I heard one of the new songs today...man...I hope it's not a good indication of the whole album because it is really generic.

Wow, great review. The band are okay though nothing I would listen to on a regular basis.

True.
Yes, the riffs aren't complex, but all the instruments combine into such a lovely textured sound that just envelops you in the song.
I can just see Ozzfest this year...Lacuna playing their hearts out and being generally excellent, only to be met by the bemused stares of 10 000 15-year old Mudvayne fans who all say some variation of 'Hey, these guys are just copying Evanescence'
Oh, the humanity.

they've been around longer then Evanecence. Besdes, Christina Scabbia kicks Amy Lee's azz.

I know, that's what I'm saying. But since Lacuna haven't broken America yet, the uninformed will likely look on them as an Evanescence rip-off...

Exactly. Which they aren't in any way.

Cravinov: much props to the comment. I don't understand why people think Amy Lee is so hot...Scabbia makes her look like a 3 dollar whore you find under a cardboard box.

This album might not be the most technical album but it couldn't be had any other way. The spotlight isn't on how simple the guitars are or how there's no solos etc. The music as a complete entity is so ethereal you won't even notice.

This is how goth-rock/metal should be done, and there is not one weak track on this album. "Angels Punishment" and "Daylight Dancer" are probably the best.

Personally I couldn't care less for Nightwish, I like Lacuna Coil for more personal reasons....being that this album was THE album for my summer listening a few years ago.

Not really, they just adapted a more metallic, darkwave sound.

I don't like Swamped much either, but there's some pretty sweet moments on this album.

Tight Rope and Angels Punishment are pretty cool. It's a shame what happened with Karmacode, but i'm looking forward to hearing their new album.
