id say downward spiral is trents best, but this rules aswell. the fragile is more instrumental where as the downward spiral has alot more character to the songs. NIN is the greatest

I found nothing but disappointment when I first listened to this. Somewhat Damaged geared me up for some hardcore, thumping industrial madness but... nope. After that song, everything was either an awesome instrumental, a decent rock song or cruddy pop song. We're In This Together Now and The Fragile literally make me cringe with their cheesiness and poppiness.

I love the instrumentals though (Complication and Ripe pwn hard). Starf*ckers Inc. is good but could be so much more industrial and heavier, rather than the intended MM spoof.

Besides the first song I wouldn't call this an industrial CD, I call it art rock.

The Downward Spiral, on the other hand, has the most ass-to-the-floor heavy industrial beats, mixed with epic ambience (mmm A Warm Place & Eraser) and really sweet, sad moments (the title track).

I prefer this over Pretty Hate Machine though, which is still a mad album.

Yeah.

^dude, the fragile is an awesome song

one thing i love about trent is that he does the music he wants to do. hes talked about how "with Teeth" was his sobriety record even though he knows that no one wants to hear the "guy gets sober" record. this album is a classic....

NuMetalMania: If I were you I would start with The Downward Spiral. I started with The Fragile, but The Downward Spiral came out before The Fragile, and gives you a better idea of what Nine Inch Nails is like.

The Fragile is great if your into electronica/ambient, although it does have some great rock parts too. Many people believe that The Downward Spiral is a better album. I only got it yesterday, so it's hard for me to make a complete assessment of it. What you should know is that it's a better example of what Nine Inch Nails sounds like. They're both fantastic albums, IMO, in very different ways. The Downward Spiral is a lot more intense. The first track really shows this. It's very layered and noisy, and there are other songs like this.

That's true, but I think the first track on this album surpasses the first on TDS in intensity. Somewhat Damaged is probably the heaviest and darkest NIN song ever.

This album has everything. The most melodic, the heaviest, and most electronic songs Trent has ever done. Definitely a masterpiece.

Definately NIN's most slept on album, TDS gets (well deserved hype) but this album is great. Seems a little overwhelming at first, but When you take it one track at a time, it's really almost a maspterpiece.

By Far my favorite NIN album, Left is better than the Right IMO. Wish they would play more Fragile material live.

Good review but,..... why do you complain so much about Trent´s lyrics? I think they are good, with a lot of meaning, some of the things that i most like about his songs are the lyrics

My favorite NIN album. Not as heavy as Downward Spiral, and not as elecrtically poppy as With Teeth.

I´m sick and tired of all song-by-song reviews on albums. It doesn´t say anything about the album at all!!

It is like reviewing a book by just describing the pictures.

This album is Reznor's masterpiece in my eyes.

Same here. It's absolutely beautiful. The instrumental pieces pull the whole thing together just perfectly.
