He can only barely scream, like at the begginning of Bat Country, but not like he used to be able to.

The stuff on this cd isnt anything u can really headbang to, though dont get me wrong i love this cd! When comparing this to WTF, its like comparing two completely different bands that i both love. And he can scream, now. Shadows has been working on his voice for some time and i hear that hes been screaming their old stuff at shows. AND i just have to comment, i think Sidewinder has a better solo than Bat Country, though the bat country one fits that song more than any other solo in any other song does

Good review.

This is a really good album and they really stepped it up a notch musically. I love the fact that alot of the songs are epic, almost verging on Power Metal. Now, i liked Waking the Fallen alot and I will say i liked the old style, but M. Shadows vocals have grown on me. True, a little nasal at times, but it still works for me. They keep getting better and better.

Great album! I love their new sound. It's so much better than before. The vocals sound great. The guitars are fantastic. You can actually hear the basslines. The drumming is good. Much better than the mediocre WtF.

It's a little long, and some songs could have been shorter, but it's not really anything major.

On another note, I heard some live songs. The vocals were terrible. The vocals on ruined of the songs. Matt just can't sing live. A pity.

Highlights: Burn it Down, Trashed and Scattered, Strength of the World

I love A7X, but wow, this album was a giant step backwards. It's not that Shadows doesn't scream (which I do miss because of the sharp contrast between the screams and clean vocals), it's that his new clean vocals just annoy me. If he would have sang like on WTF, I feel this album would have been much better.

The songs also seem to bore me. I don't know why. The songs on WTF were able to keep me interested, but I can't say the same about CoE. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I just want the tracks on CoE to just be over when I listen to them.

However, the instrumental parts are magnificent (talentwise, as good as the guitar work is it tends to bore me as well) and that's the only reason I consider this album somewhat mediocre. I just couldn't get into it.This Message Edited On 02.19.06

TurnTheOtherWay said about how i feel, except that some of the instrumentation is what bugs me. Its like they were obsessed with showing off how good they were, making some parts just... kind of a little to technical and not enough emotion.

this album really shows thier progressive side...they weren't afraid to really reach for something new...

almost has a hint of dream theater...but less crappy than dream theater...

it's ambition...a lot of it...it's not the best album ever...there is no best album ever...and if there is tell me now so i can hear it and die in peace...

it however grows way past metalcore...which is in my eyes already dying...maybe these guys will lead the charge for a growth in metal not seen since metallica made master of puppets...these guys might break the mold, them or trivium...

I was surprised from this album. They are not bad at all, and I enjoyed some of the songs on the album. Epic sounding songs, for a genre I wouldn't really expect.

My favorite song on the album is probably "Strength of the World".This Message Edited On 02.15.06

It is obvious that this album receives mixed approval because he cannot scream anymore (thus his vocals are a bit 'lacking' to say the least). The overall instrumentation is impressive, particularly the guitars and also the Rev is a pretty competent drummer. Did they really use an 8-string bass? :s Thought this was probably the best review done on this album. Good job! This Message Edited On 02.15.06

Ok, i've done my fair share of flaming this album, but I went back and listened again today, and holy crap, Syn and Zacky can freakin shred. I opened up guitar tabs for Sidewinder and tried to follow along, and Syn does this sweep picking part that is incredible...if only there were no singing...

I like his vocals too. I love this album, im glad they left the metalcore genre for it.

BTW ive read multiple interviews where Shadows says he can still scream but doesnt want to anymore. He said that they dont listen to music with screaming in it and he doenst like singers who never sing so as a band they decided to drop the screaming. If he really wanted to he could but he doesnt want to. Thier the band and its thier choice. Personally while it can get a bit whiney (end of MIA) i think his voice is great and it fits thier new style.

I've said enough about the musical aspect of this album already, so Im going to stick to his voice. Shadows can definitely still scream, he made a recovery after he blew that blood vessel (I think it was a blood vessel problem) in his throat. I really loved his screaming voice, but his current singing is just as good. I wish they stayed with a heavy mix between screaming and singing, but whatever I guess Shadows and the band like this style better.

In an interview, Synyster Gates said that they are getting ready for a tour with Coheed and Cambria, saying that "They liked their music a lot, and we think that they like our stuff as well." If you want a whiney high pitched voice, the guy from coheed gets the job done... and if A7X said that they really like that band then it looks like theyre not going back to screaming anytime soon, but I think their newer albums will be much more similar to City of Evil and the WTF/STST days are over

About the screaming thing yeah he can kinda scream but he won't, in an interview I saw it said that he had kept hurting a blood vessel in his throat numerous times and his doctor told him that he had better get technique or stop screaming before any long term damage occurs.

And to the kid above me, you relalize that Shadows uses a whiny voice at times, like The Wicked End and Strength of The World right.
