If it weren't for the albums that followed this, I think this would be a 4 + rated album.

I feel this is only a small bit off their big 3 in quality, and better than anything before it (or after the big 3, for that matter).

What about Piper though? I like it a touch more then this.

it's underrated agreed but better than meddle? no way

Meddle hasn't settled fully for me yet.
|
| |
Yeah this is definitely underrated but I'd say Piper and definitely Meddle are superior.

Hmm Piper has a couple of songs that could be removed for me (Pow R. Toc H. and maybe Flaming) and overall I'd say I prefer Saucerful. Meddle, on the other hand, I love One of these Days, Fearless and Echoes but not much else, whereas I love every song on this so yeah. Such a fucking good album, Stay is top 10 Floyd (if not Top 5) and Childhood's End and Mudmen are up there as well.

but echoes alone >>>

Echoes is better than any song on here yeah (although not by much, imo); but this is WAY more consistent that Meddle. This doesn't have turds like San Tropez and Seamus for starters.
|
| |
The only song I don't love on Meddle is Seamus and even that serves its purpose as almost like prelude to Echoes.

I never really got the love for A Pillow of Winds, to me it's just mediocre. San Tropez, too - Dave and Rick lay down some sweet guitar/piano in that one but Roger's vocals are just plain boring. And I don't really know how you could consider Seamus a prelude to Echoes considering it sucks and Echoes is amazing, plus they're completely and absolutely opposite in style and tone. But different strokes, I guess.
|
| |
Strictly speaking it's not a prelude at all but somehow the relaxed/lazy feel of the song seems like the perfect build up to the epicness that is Echoes. It's still the weakest song on the album by far though, but it has grown on me slightly.

To quote wacknizzle: "Shamus to put metaphorically is when the sun starts to set, the dog out back is barking, and the mushrooms are just starting to kick in before you get shot completely into outerspace a.k.a Echoes."
That's pretty much what I was getting at.

Fair enough I suppose, but I doubt I'm gonna like it more than I do now, which is not much at all. Another thing about Meddle is that there's not enough Wright vocals. I mean, that's true of all their albums, but at least on this he gets a fair amount (more than Waters anyway, as it should be) and the songs he does sing on are the cream.

I think Gilmour's vocals are great throughout Meddle so that doesn't really bother me.
Meddle is really close to becoming my 2nd favourite Floyd album. I've started listening to it more than WYWH.

More than WYWH? Damn son. I love Gilmour's vocals, of course (if you recall our last conversation, I said that for me it's his vocals that make him my favourite musician, not his guitar skills) but Wright's vocals are a different beast and to me at least, he was disgustingly underused.

I know how much you love the Wall Artuma, but for me: WYWH > Animals > Dark Side > this > Division Bell > the rest.

it's really nice to hear you'd rank division bell so high
