BizzyD your post hurts my brain and makes me weep

The Mars Volta are great lol, but i dont agree that sum 41 and alter bridge are the 'only modern players that can solo' - nick zinner from the yeah yeah yeahs is great, plus kirk hammet from metallica (check out the live version of 'dirty window' off st.anger), kelly jones on the new 'phonics album, tom morello from audioslave, michael amott from arch enemy...etc. In fact, a lot of omar rodriquez-lopez's soloing in TMV is so far into the bands sonic brew i find them difficult to pick out sometimes. This Message Edited On 04.21.06This Message Edited On 04.21.06This Message Edited On 04.21.06

I meant mainstream. And Hammet doesnt count as modern considering Metallica started in ****ing 1981. I thought audioslave was older, but i don't know much about them.

You gotta admit sum41 ripped off Battery by Metallica, but i think its too alike to be ripped off... Id say its a tribute song or something... No other song sounds anything like anyone else. Slipping away is the only song I wouldnt listen to... so basically...

Best. Album. Ever.

I dislike this album. Sum have jumped on the band wagon of dying your hair black and making sad songs to make them seems mature. They've lost their fun punky poppy sound

Uh... I thought it was well established that Sum 41 isn't punk? Anyway here's how it goes for me:

Sum 41 body slams Simple Plan, Blink 182 sodomizes Green Day, and Blink 182 beats out Sum 41. That was kinda hard, as I don't like Blink 182 either.

you do have a point on their later music. there are some songs on here i absolutely like and others have that "dark and negative" type of feel.

space the paragraph up or put periods in or something, i also disagree with "that sum 41 should be a genre by themselves". they are not that good to do that, no band is. plus i could think of more bands that could fit the position better than sum 41.

i agree with you on the rap and hip hop and pop/emo bands though.

Three consecutive posts. You could just edit them together and make one big post. That would be infinately cooler and less spammy. I like Spam. The food.

i was posting those at different people. if it was to the same person i would make a big post but nobody would want to read that now, wouldn't they

also i think sum 41 is a lot better than blink 182, especially when it comes down to their skill at playing their instrumets. Blink is good, but Sum 41 has a lot more variety in their songs and doesnt use the same chords over and over. That is my opinion, though. This Message Edited On 05.03.06This Message Edited On 05.03.06

I haven't heard more then the two singles and i like it. way diiferent from their old stuff... i would never go as far as to say this is the best album ever... NEVER. With albums like Master of Puppets and Apetite for Destruction, I would never say this album is the best. I know that was an opinion from hairypinapple... but c'mon.

you are forgetting Dan Donegan of Disturbed, Eric Weaver of 12 Stones, Tony Rombola of Godsmack and Aaron Fink of Breaking Benjamin. These guys can also write good solos when there is one. i also agree with you saying that sum 41 is a lot more improvic than anyone

I'll concede Dan Donegan can write a good solo. The rest of them however...

the others dont write solos very often and arent that great when they do, but some are pretty catchy.

Maybe. Depends on what you classify catchy. However, Donegan can shred when he wants to.

I like Tom Morello. He doesn't really qualify as a modern guitarist because he used to be in RATM but audioslave is a modern band and he's in it. So.....well I'm not sure whether or not he counts a modern.

Dude, none of those 4 can write solos. If your standards are that low, I'll just say that Dave Baksh is better than all four of them.

I also cheched out tom morello, and Dave is way better than him too.

Tom Morello is cool because he makes weird noisez on his guitar.
