Both aren't perfect. The Times falls flat at times, but thematically it's pretty much a perfect album for me. This seems honestly rather lame and annoying at times. All I Really Wanna Do, Spanish Harlem Incident, I Shall Be Free and Ballad In Plain D (so fucking long...) are just average material.

The Times... might be my fav Dylan album.

The Times is like 8th or something in my Dylan ranking.

@Kris: All those songs you mentioned have a certain charm to them (some are even highlights) and I'd say they beat quite a lot of the tracks on Times.

Haven't heard it in some time, the ballads are outstanding imo and the t/t is a personal favorite.

I have that & The Freewheelin' both 5'd.

Neither are anywhere close to my favourite Dylan. Personally I think he was quite a way off reaching his peak as a songwriter when he wrote those albums, regardless of how masterful some of the standouts may be.

I'm really torn on this... On the one hand it's got some amazing songs in Chimes of Freedom, To Ramona, My Back Pages, Ballad in Plain D, and It Ain't Me Babe, on the other hand it's got some songs that range from (dare I say?) plain bad (I Shall Be Free No. 10) to just average (Black Crow Blues, Spanish Harlem Incident, Motorpsycho Nightmare, and I Don't Believe You). And then there's All I Really Want To Do somewhere in the middle (it would be so much better without that yodel thing).

I finally gave this a first listen and I am really digging it. Probably my favorite of his first 4.

The only Dylan album in which his vocals are actually annoying. They are so front and center in the mix and have this wailing tone throughout most of the album. Can't really get into this...
