I agree that it is a good album---but compared to other Porcupine Tree there is a lot of filler going on. And I do mean a lot.
Great album nonetheless, songs like Arriving Somewhere But Not Here and Lazarus make the album for me.

No, PT (or at least the 2 albums I've heard) is nothing like NIN. There really isnt an industrial kind of sound from PT, like there is from NIN. PT is a lot more dreamy (although NIN can be dreamy too), and they use guitars more than NIN. I'd have to say the lyrical content is the most similar because some of PT's lyrics can get pretty dark.

Deadwing is the first album I've heard by Porcupine Tree, can't wait to hear the rest of their stuff. 4.5/5

I'd recommend In Absentia next. I think its the closest type of sound to Deadwing. After hearing a few of the older albums I can definately say that their old sound isnt as easily accessable, and is more ambience driven than rock driven.

Porcupine Tree used to be more avant-garde, influenced by psychedelic, progressive and some ambient, definitely less conventional. Now they're more of a unique modern rock.

This Cd is amazing... Im really enjoying all of the songs, I love the complexities and differences in every song.
Fave tracks are
Arriving somewhere... (the first song that totally caught my attention)
Open Car (like reviewer said, amazing lyrics and I personally enjoy the outro, love the simplicity of his voice and the guitar.)
The start of something beautiful (good lyrics and a great tune, again the outro with the drums is amazing in this one.

This album slightly edges out In Absentia as my favorite, mainly due to ASBNH.

i had to change my rating on this from a 3 to a 4/5. I gave this a more recent listen and ended liking it more than i have before. PT singers vocals are excellent. This convinced me to buy an earlier album. rock on.

I think this album is a lot more consistant then In Absentia. I don't get what's disliked so much about the last 4 songs on the album. I think they're pretty damn good. Maybe not as good as the others on the album, but it's still better than some of the filler on In Absentia, IMO.

Porcupine Tree are almost like a Zeppelin in todays music. This album is talented, and def. well though out. And it has me convinced that the next time i take a trip to the cd warehouse i should buy another Porcupine Tree album. It on my to-do list.
