I agree when I first bought Kid A I thought what the hell did I buy this crap for? But it took me time to adjust and now I think its radioheads best album. I for one thought the ambience on cygnus....vismund cygnus and The widow were extremely repetive and boring but the intro to Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore Part A I thought was awesome and was needed to set the gloomy mood of the song. Other than that I could stand all the other ambience on the album.

The Mars Volta's rhythm section is very underrated. I think it's one of the best rhythm. Omar is absolutely fabulous, as is Cedric, but nobody seems to mention the others. Anyway, mind blowing and fantastic album. In the top 10 for the best of 2005.

I think this is again one of these albums where there is no 'between'. Either you love it, or you hate it. I have not heard many people say 'I like that and that, but the rest is bad'.

I personally do not know where I stand yet. The things I heard were interesting, but sometimes a bit too 'up there' for my taste. But, that often depends on the mood. I'll have to give this a in depth listen some time to rate it.

Has anyone seen the video for "L'via L'viaquez"?

It's crunk.

I've heard L'via L'viaquez and at first I didn't like it, but after about a month or so I listened to it again, and then again. It's grown on me quite a bit, and I'm now intrigued as to how the rest of the album sounds.

I like this album, but not anywhere near as much as Deloused. Maybe I need to give it some more listens.
There is too much 'nothing' on this album.

Also, I don't get the tracklisting.

I know that Cygnus..Vismun Cygnus is all on track one,
then The Widow on track 2.
L'Via L'Viaquez on track 3.

Then does Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore track 4-7 and Cassandra Gemini track 8 - 12?

This album was completely awesome. 5/5 means perfect, and I think that may be an overstatement, but it really, really is awesome. Cygnus, Cassandra Gemini, The Widow... L'Via.. Wow. It's fresh, and I *love* the Latin influence.

very well done review. i agree with you in that this album is really amazing. it could become one of my favorites the more i hear it, although i do think that it lacks in the ability of repeated listens just because there's too much building up to the mood in comparison to what actually does present itself. 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there of low tones doesn't put me in any musical mood as much as an acoustic track or a 7 minute jam session.

I've recently "aquired" this album, but have not yet listened enough to give a fair rating. I'll come back whence I've listened more.

Cassandra Gemini is brilliant. I don't agree with Miranda... I just can't get into that song. But Cassadra Gemini is just perfect, and nothing compares to this classic. I don't give the album a 5/5, I'd give it a 4.

I heard L'Via L'Viaquez the other day. I was impressed. It sounded similar to a latin influenced Zeppelin. I hadn't heard any other previous works. It was very good. Great review.

Upon further listening, I've decided this gets a four. Those little bits of ambiance aren't really that bad but I really hate the four minutes of it at the beginning of Miranda That Ghost(...).

Also, those vocals are reaaally high pitched most of the time, and while it is fairly forgivable, it does get annoying at times. I love The Widow... so great.

the more i hear this album the more i love it and hate it. I love just every ounce of music they blast but i absolutely hate the bullshit in between the songs. Thank god i now know when to skip the song so i don't have to hear what sounds like kids crying for 2 minutes or just pointless nothing in the first 4 minutes of miranda. Still I love this CD just as much as Deloused.

4.5/5
