I don't think Blackwater Park (song) sucks, but it isn't that great. The soft section is beautiful though. I can't say I'm crazy about The Leper Affinity, either, except for that part where he sings "Keep...the beast inside..."
The Funeral Portrait and The Drapery Falls are my favorites from BWP.

The title-track is the best Opeth song. This is just so well-written... Martin Lopez really stand out on this song.

Agreed, Deliverance is the best song on the album. The ending drum beat is so catchy and will stay in your head for hours.

This album is much harder to get into, but after you do, it's well worth it.

BWP, to me, is better overall. Deliverance, Wreath, and Master's Apprentice rivals every song on BWP, though. Deliverance is the fucking shit.

Oh, and by the way: The guitar solos in "A Fair Judgement" are some of Opeth's best.

Well pointed out, Thor. I love Opeth's solos, and I'm no solo guy. I can't get enough of that one on The Grand Conjuration.

Well if you're looking for a first Opeth experience then I would suggest that you check out Blackwater Park, seeing as how it is the majority favorite.

I've listened to this album about twice, and it didn't do much for me.
IMO Still Life is their best

The first three songs on here are godly, but by the end I think the album loses its appeal.

Akerfeldt's solos make this album. He's one of my favorite soloists (his work on PT's Deadwing is incredible), and I think he really shines here as well as on Ghost Reveries.
Other than that, it's a mediocre album. The title track is absolutely incredible, though.

i seen these fuckers live, my first mosh.
didnt play any acoustic songs though, i wanted to hear benighted and still day beneath the sun.
maybe next time but this is a fucking awesome cd though. you get your moneys worth when you buy a opeth cd.

Amazing band. Saw them play three songs last year at the Sounds of the Underground. They should of played at least fifteen. This album is their most brutal, and one of their most experimental in terms of incorporating transitions from 70's progressive rock clean vocals to early 90's death metal vocals. Awesome album!
