It is better.
No argument here, they stepped up their musicianship on Storm of the Lights Bane by leaps and bounds over this.

I'm pretty sure I'm one of about 5 people on this site who likes this better lol.

They definately stepped it up on SotLB but I wouldn't go as far as saying by leaps and bounds

The one this this album lacks is the amount of tremolo melodies scattered throughout. Album still makes me run naked through darkened forests, flailing torches and stabbing leprechauns.
And that was a little exaggerated Scream hahahaha.

Album makes me run to the top of a dark snowy mountain and howl at the frozen moon and spit fire at the unlucky boy scouts that fall upon my path

Still my favorite Dissection album. Listening to it now. That King Diamond-like scream Jon pulls off in Black Horizons is still the greatest thing on this album.

btw album rapes storm of the lights bane which is saying alot cause that album rapes a lot of other shit
|
| |
I wouldn't say it "rapes" SotLB but it's certainly a more cohesive album
it works better as a whole than SotLB

i applaud dissection on the massive amount of influence they've had in the metal world, but their music puts me to sleep.

much better and Storm is just another example of albums like blackwater park, filosofem, slaughter of the soul etc. in that the hype is so strong people just claim to like it better. slaughter of the soul being the biggest offense because that album simply sucks and is a slap in the face to at the gates' practically flawless streak up until 1993. terminal spirit disease marked the end for them, when Alf left they should have broken up.
storm on the other hand is a great album. but like you said this is just much more solid and in my opinion more dynamic. each song has something extremely memorable about it.
|
| |
but at the gates before terminal spirit disease is crap. i mean yeah it's more technically impressive but it's still blah

I agree with that but I don't understand your hate for SoTS it was VERY different from their previous work but I still think its good

with fear i kiss the burning darkness, along with mithotyn's "in the sign of the ravens", are the 2
albums that got me into extreme metal. after hearing the amazing album that is the red in the sky is
ours and then the amazing gardens of grief and then hearing SoTS it just makes one sad and shameful
that something like that could happen. SoTS isnt the worst thing to happen to music but it's close,
its a shame that after such a great start with Lunar Strain, Skydancer, and GoG/Red in the sky/With
fear, all 3 "gothenburgers" began to venture down the path of suck.

to me it's pretty much what metallica did in 1991 but much worse, more of a change in style. in both cases there was one band member who made them what they were and without him both bands suffered. Cliff Burton in Metallica's case and Alf Svensson the uncredited genious in ATG's case
|
| |
never heard of Mithotyn before and if it wasn't for SoTS I know I would've never heard of ATG
