Onset of Putrefaction is better than this by a longshot, IMO. It seems like the songwriting on this record is very uninspired and he's just writing the most technical riffs he can manage. Too much refrain in all the songs, too, they're very repetitive...This Message Edited On 06.20.07

Speaking from an 12th year violin/viola guitar player, this album is incredible and unlike some other technical death bands the songs actually makes sense to my ears!!

Necrophagist are very musical in comparison to most death metal out there.

Alot of people complain about Muhammed's vocals, but I think his growl is incredible...

this is not the best tech death band.
this album's still great though

The only other tech death bands I know of are Nile, Anata, Atheist, a couple more underground ones that nobody here would know, and Psycroptic and this is leagues ahead of those.
Unless, of course, if you consider Cynic tech death. Cynic is definitely better. This Message Edited On 09.10.07

I liked Quo Vadis more than these guys. Perhaps Martyr, too.

Never heard either of those. I'll check them out.

Well, that's just what everyone calls them.

Yeah, in a certain way Cynic and Death could be considered tech death (and better than this in my opinion), they are my favorite with quo vadis and martyr too

this is the first album i heard from necrophagist, and it basically got me into death metal. i still like onset better though. but if it wasn't for necrophagist, i'd probably be listening to trivium.

I recently got this and I quite like it. I have already listened to Onset... and I never liked the overall sound, mainly due to the drum and bass (I hear they were all samples). This is a solid album, and the guitarwork is just extraordinary.

The original version of Onset of Putrefaction had sampled drums, the bass was actually played.
On the re-release (the one with the album art shown on this website) all the drums were re-recorded by a real drummer.
I like Onset more because the riffs have more substance, the songwriting is better, and it's heavier overall. This is pretty different, but it's still thoroughly enjoyable.

This band has a bright future, if Muhammed keeps going strong!

This stuff is extremely talented, but the vocals could use more diversity.
this.
I would love Necrophagist so much more if Muhammad could pull off something than those brutal lows. Though it's epic and heavy as shit, it does get a bit monotonous after a while... Instrumentally though? OH MY GOD.

Instrumentally this is an awesome album.
Vocally and lyrically it's still good but could use improvement.
