The dude's voice is a little questionable, but I'm enjoying this at the moment. There are a lot of moments in this that sound really similar to Sufjan.

i am absolutely loving this album right now. its amazing really, best ive heard in a long time. completely dumbfounded by all the other reviews on it though, makes all these other sites look like they are idiots

There's lack of mention here of how derivative they are of Sufjan Stevens (Other than from tombits); I believe that is one of the main criticisms against them, other than the overblown prog rock habits like the cheesy fantasy story concepts. While I don't hate it I do understand where some of the criticisms are coming from.

One of the best albums I have ever heard. I love their style; they nailed down the flow of the music, and the lyrics are addictingly poetical, even if they are Christian. Well written review.
"derivative they are of Sufjan Stevens"
There are so many bands around, it's hard not to be similar to another. Comparing one band to another is completely unnecessary and often irrelevant. The only time it should be considered is when plagiarism comes into play, but that doesn't happen often in the world of copyrighted music.

stumbled upon this when it came out and haven't listened to it for years. think it's time to check it out again as I remember quite liking it back in the day.

jumping in to say that the discourse at the time of this album lumped them in with sufjan, which is understandable, but really they had way more in common with post rock, math rock, and emo than sufjan. they really got shafted by pitchfork, kinda screwed them over for touring (which sucks, because people that saw them say they're one of the best live acts they've ever seen).

yeah, adjy is anathallo reincarnated. it feels like anathallo's holiday at the sea ep is the single most influential thing on them.
