just the whole thing felt so overdone and silly
like it was obviously attempting to sound epic and grandiose but it just seemed like they were trying waaaaay way too hard, like to the point that it was just laughable

The symphonic elements in the title track do feel a bit processed and sterile to me, but they aren't flagrantly bombastic or anything.
I dunno, you probably just aren't into this style. This is definitely cheesy, but it's the good kind of cheese I think.

Possibly. I think they're incredible, and I know there are some diehards out there. I'll stop listening to them for a bit, then return just to remember why I thought they were one of the greatest Metal bands.
