discog walk: visit on the remastered 2013 ed. From their debut until this Tormato. For me, this is their weakest by far. Only interesting aspect is that they experiment a lot. The result is uninspired. The production sound is horrible. Dont get me wrong, Yes is an amazing prog rock band and i do like it a lot. Just not, here.
To be fair, the closer is the best part of this album, saving it from a total catastrophe.

This was the third album by Yes I had heard as a kid. First i Bought "new". For the life of me dont understand why Going For The One always gets rated higher than this album. I would give it a solid four stars maybe four and a half. The writing is more concise and has more eagworms than Going For The One. The production is better too. Criminally underrated or low rated Yes album.

Is this one essential or skippable?

Skippable. It's not bad but not essential. It's probably their less good work in the 70's.

Don't Kill the Whale is so good man, quite trippy too the more it goes on. I think this one is pretty underrated. Release Release is another great jam

"Don't Kill The Whale" is a nice song but that was made to be a commercial single to promote the album. I agree that "Release, Release" is an interesting energetic song. But the album has also an awful song, “Arriving UFO”. The others aren't bad with the exception of “Future Times/Rejoice”, “Madrigal” and especially “On The Silent Wings Of Freedom”, the only real genuine prog track on the album. We can say these three songs are the songs that save the album.
