I think Soh's real problem is with progressive music. It's very eclectic, and yes it does change suddenly, and yes some people who are used to the same monotonous palm muted chords over and over again (i.e. most of thrash) may not like the melding of drastically different sections. IMO Opeth make these transitions extremely well, especially on BWP. But I can actually see how some would consider it awkward.
