I don't see how they have regressed as songwriters either i am the robot. But I definitely see where your coming from with the whole randomness on genre jumping in the middle of a song. Thats my only quarrel with this album. At least this album far exceeds anything they have done in the past.

I agree completely with this review and rating, so I can cancel my plans to review this. Besides the subpar execution the album has at times, Rogers' harsh vocals are the other thing that turn me off. I love everything else about the album though.

This album is outstanding. However i feel i cannot listen to it without listening to the whole thing. And rarely do i have time for such an exploration. But after listening to it the few times that i have...well to say the least, i am a better man for it haha

Agreed. This album was the biggest grower i ever experienced. I hated this, besides from the clean parts, for 3 monthes. Then I put it away and gave it another chance and didnt thnk it was half bad. Te more I listened to it the better it got so now I think it's fantastic. Still don't love the harsh vocals but it's an awesom album nontheless.

I like Ants, and White Walls is an amazing song, seriously. Thing is I can play the first track, and those two, and have my fill of this album. That's me of course, if anything it sucks for me that I can't get the same enjoyment from this that you guys do

^I completely understand because that's the case with me and the Opeth discography. At least you recognize it has greatness rather then just dispel the whole album as bad.

I'm sorta like that with Opeth too actually, I think BwP is overrated, and from most of their albums I only listen to a few tracks. My Arms, Your Hearse is solid (except Credence, that song sucks) and I LOVE Still Life, that albums kicks ass pretty much front to back. Ghosts of Perdition is my favorite Opeth song, but everything is else is...blah, whatever.

Again, White Walls is a really great song, to me it's like all the good elements of the album rolled into one track.

I still don't get the whole "oh man these guys don't know how to write a song" stuff, this band got no song structure at all so does numerous other bands, sure BTBAM do the metalcore part here then TOTALLY 180 soft part/ambiance part here, that is mostly the reason why they are recognized, it doesn't mean they can't write it means they wanted to do that.

IMO they transition very smoothly and whats with this saying "that the album is great but if I listen to one song I want to listen to another song" stuff and marking it lower for that reason? if one song makes you want to listen to another then it is a good thing? aimritez?

P.S. if this band suck at writing then so does protest the hero, opeth, tool, circle takes the square (well these guys suck n e ways), and botch and converge,

and all that remains, killswitch engage, soulja boy, and black tide must be at the pinacle of song writingThis Message Edited On 03.25.08

Great review. Well-written and highlights all my problems with this album. I usually dont have a problem sitting through an entire CD, or two or 3, but somehow this CD doesnt get boring it just gets unlistenable. after a while it becomes impossible to listen to all the way through, but just playing individual tracks ruins the feel of the album. Its a Catch-22 situation that demonstrates BTBAM's terrible songwriting approach on this album.

^You say their songwriting approach is terrible but then jizz at Opeth's? I don't get it in the slightest.

When it comes down to it, it's often a tough thing to explain why one likes a particular band, and dislikes another. From mine and ikillyou's 3's, we obviously can't deny that this is good, it just doesn't click with us, agree with us, speak to us, sit well with us...blah blah blah lol. I'd have a hard time telling you exactly why I don't like this album much as well, and the whole "their songwriting sucks" things seems to kind of put my feelings into words, but at the same time, not really.

In the end, it's probably a good thing, cause if we all just felt the exact same way about all the same bands, this would all get really boring really quick. I don't know exactly where I'm going with this, but hopefully ya'll got what I'm saying lol
