Yeah, that was surprising.

i just got this album yesterday and gave it a quick run through today and enjoyed what i heard. sure there are one too many breakdowns here and there, but the album has an overall nice feeling to it (imo). i also really enjoyed the singer a lot in this and think he has a great voice for what he does. This Message Edited On 01.17.08

I was like you when I first heard it, but it got boring fast. And you're right about the vocals, Winston is the only memorable thing about this album. The rest is all pretty standard.

I just made some edits to the review. It's not completely re-written, but it has a different stance than it did before.

This is a pretty good album, but I can see how it could become stale with time. This has way too many breakdowns. Still, I enjoy a few of their songs a lot and I'm seeing them live on the 2nd, so I can't judge them on their live show. I don't know if this or KWAS is my favorite of theirs.
I can't really tell them apart.

^^^
I'm seeing them on the 2nd too! Where are you from?

Chester VA, of course. I've never been to Toad's Place before, so I'm excited.
|
| |
Yeah I've never been there either. I'm from Richmond... it's about time they had some awesome bands playing there.

I'm going for these guys and Dillinger. Every Time I Die might as well not even be there, and I'm not huge on Killswitch Engage like my friends are.
I'm excited for these guys though. They have breakdowns.

If you're seeing them live, you'll have a great time. I've seen them three times live, they put on an excellent show. The mosh is always insane.
|
| |
a question, how big are these guys in america? I know they're trying to break that scene, but I'm not sure of how successful they are.
|

i kinda like prom queen more.
their more melodic, maybe not as fast, but definately more interesting. still pretty generic tho.
my only interest in parkway drive is seeing them live. if you havnt, its by far one of the best music experiences u will likely ever have.

prom queen are absolutely horrible. Their breaking up was one of the best things to happen to music. Parkway are just as generic, but not as crap. but yeah, they're exciting live.

Killing With a Smile: A Continuation.
That title may have been more apt. They are what they are right now, unfortunately. I've grown tired of the genre as a whole, but vocally, they have a real talent on their hands with Winston. His range is impressive and I still believe on stage has no peer within this country.
But until they learn to progress lyrically and musically; they're going to struggle to reach new fans. What they've done for the genre in Oz is pretty amazing, but there remains so much more they could do. The talent is there - in my opinion - but it remains to be seen how they react to the "stardom" they've found.
Time will tell.

Not a bad interpretation of the band. You give them a little more credit than I do though, I would say Winston is the only thing that makes these guys a little better than the other mindless drones.

This cd has been revitalized for me with the discovery of A Siren's Song and Carrion.
This band isn't as good live as people give them credit for.
|
| |
You think so? I've seen them three times and each time they've put on a killer of a show.

They were good, I'm not denying them that, they just weren't great. The bassist had no energy whatsoever. The vocalist was great though, and that's really what matters the most.
I may have enjoyed it more if there was a mosh instead of some hardcore dancing douchebags.
|
| |
Yeah, hardcore dancing is stupid. But I know what you mean, and I agree, Winston is Parkway's only selling point, on cd or on stage.

This band isn't as good live as people give them credit for.
true that. they were brilliant live when I (well, we) saw them. Some poor kid got his nose broken within 5 seconds of their first song. rofl.
I crowdsurfed for Romance Is Dead, but the idiotic crowd pushed me back into the pit, where I was promptly dropped from 6 feet in the air onto my back... JUST in time for the breakdown. So I did an awkward crazy mosh/try to keep my left shoe on (as it was basically hanging on to my toes) for the rest of the song.
