This album is ok, not bad but not great, not nearly a 4.5..... Angela's vocals are starting to bore me.

Plus they added that stupid effect to make her voice seem more hollow or something, it's rather palpable through out the songs.

Do you mean the fact that they didn't actually put 93284294 effects on her voice? I like it better that way...it's much more natural now.

Maybe they took some effects away but they have a really annoying one that gives it a holographic-ish sound

Her voice sounds better here imo.
Off topic, Kal, you ever going to listen to those De Lirium's Order albums?

Yeah I'll try, I just have so many albums to listen to. I'll make them priority :thumb:

"Arch Enemy release their best album since Stigmata"
Nope, Wages of Sin was by far their best album. The opening song alone on that album destroy's the last 5 years of their career. Ok review except I feel you hyped this album up a bit. Arch Enemy has hit a point in their career where they just can't make anything new (which you did point out in your review). This alone should not make it a 4.5 rating (but to each his own). Even though Arch Enemy are consistently good, they are stuck in purgatory.

I don't think they are consistently good at all, I disliked their previous 2 albums but loved this one.

I disagree. Listen to the riffs off of this album and then listen to the last three albums. While the feel still is the same, I'll give you that, the riffs themselves aren't the standard C riffs that flood most modern melodic death metal today. They have a more original edge to them, which for me puts this album above most of their other ones.

Angela's vocals simply drive this album into the ground. They suck. This Message Edited On 09.30.07

Well, this is my favorite Arch Enemy album, so of course I think it's the best.

This was a boring and, ultimately, disappointing release. Vocals and instrumentals were both quite lackluster.

This must be the only Arch Enemy album you've heard.

Pretty solid album, though not as good as I would have hoped. Doomsday Machine is still my favorite album I've heard by them.

Boo to everyone who doesn't like this as much as me.
I am too great to back up my opinion with an argument, so I will leave it with simple insults. Boooo.

Stigmata absolutely blows Doomsday Machine out of the water, and everything else by the band tbh. Doomsday Machine is cool, but one of their weakest i'd say, I prefer this, and Wages of the Gossow era to it. All 3 Liiva era albums are beetter than Doomsday Machine.
This album on the other hand, is probably their best since Stigmata, honestly. This is about on Par with Black Earth, maybe a little better than Wages and Burning Bridges.

If it makes you feel better, the title track and The Day You Died are sweet.

I think my favorite may be Vultures...I dunno hard to choose. And a bit offtopic, here's how i'd order all AE albums, best to worst:
Stigmata (easily)
Black Earth
Wages of Sin AND Rise of the Tyrant
Burning Bridges
Doomsday Machine
Anthems of Rebellion

The only albums I have are Angela ones, if I get another one it'll probably be Stigmata since everyone cums all over it.

Same here, I really need to buy an AE album without Angela.
