That's basically it.
It's not something you'd enjoy if you just listened to it out the blue but when you know the circumstances it was made in then you can connect with it well.

Album Rating: 3.5
It's seriously hard to rate this album, let alone review it. I think you did a great job. I rate this 3.5 simply because of the emotion Frusciante puts into it. In fact, sometimes I like it, but I've had to do some pretty ridiculous listening in order to even be able to bear it.

A drug money record. It can't be denied that this man actually pimped his musical skills for some vein-glory.

Ha sorry with all attempts to read this review was to feel the same way you did listening. I love this album. I think where he was at and the emotions he pulls out
of the abyss and void he was in is fucking great. BUT rating his voice, guitar work etc. is how we rate most things, on success or greatness not substance. For me this album
is a fuck all to that and a soulful outpour of pain and fearless expression. As with most
reviews its easy to take the stance of being superior in your position to yay or nay the work of another artist, when your contribution is one of limited insight and judgement.
So laugh as you may but take a look at where he is at now and you will see that for one to go the to the bottom of life and come back and prosper speaks to his spirit in my eyes. Even at his worst this album has more soul and spirit than most. Especially for the fact that he has little concern for approval on his singing or anything like that. Yes he needed money but so do you. Whatever everyone is entitled to opinion but as they say they are like assholes, everyone has one and I value more what a person does than what they say myself included.

Always loved this. Yes it's plain derirant and almost impossible to listen to at times ('Enter a Uh', 'I Can see until I see Your Eyes...') but has some gems ('Life's a Bath', 'I'm Always'...). Oh and for me the previous one, "Niandra LaDes" stands as his best solo effort. Period.
