I don't see why you guys don't like Simone's voice that much. Sure, she may not be the best technical singer, but her tone is great and her voice is very pretty. Floor's voice kills, but sometimes she goes crazy and it's kind of hard to listen to. She may be showing her great vocal techniques, but I listen to music for the sound, so if it sounds good it is good!
And I wouldn't think of Epica as a second rate AF. I felt they were a second rate NW before DYU, but after that album I went back to their older work and found I loved it as well. As for me, I haven't really gotten into AF except their final album (which kicks major booty).

The cover of Fear Factory's 'Replica' is hilarious. With that exception,i thought this was a pretty solid release, but its far from their best.

I think its one of their best actually, much better than Design your Universe or Consign to oblivion.

Amazing voice love the album

DYU was great. Especially the softer tracks. Linger is still the best song this band has ever done, and even then it's simply Simone and the pianist

awsome stuff, Simones voice is just about perfect for their sound. but yea, DYU is easily better than this.

So I finally got around to actually listening to this album (didn't realize I actually posted in this review too, lol). Anyways, I was surprised by this album...it's actually very well done. Saying that Epica is an After Forever ripoff is somewhat of a misnomer, because that's like suing John Fogerty for ripping off CCR (oh, wait...;) ). Mark Jensen was about 50% of After Forever's sound, and listening to Epica, I can actually hear that it's a 50% the later AF albums were sorely lacking. While I respect AF for doing something different, a lot of what they did after the split was subpar (Remagine?), although Invisible Circles was probably the best the band put out IMO.
Anyways, I got bored one day and went through Epica's back catalogue, and after hearing the more commercialized sound of Consign, I expected this to be worse...but it actually went the opposite direction and ended up being one of the band's stronger records IMO.
Plus, that cover...

More like an AF fan and some other FFMS bands, really. I used to, but the more bands appear the shitty the genre gets.

This is the first time I've listened to Epica - except that live video for "cry for the moon". So far it's pretty sweet - what sets the band apart from Nightwish and Within Temptation, with whom they tend to be lumped together, is the fact they're not afraid to play heavy and use growls. Good thing

Excellent album, but their recent stuff is better

I've only heard one Nightwish album (Dark Passion Play) and it's awful and nothing like this. This is like power metal/gothic with some dm mixed in for good measure.
