yeah i should hate this but i don't, the vocals are actually really solid and so are the songs as a whole

This was one of the best things I'd ever heard back in the day. Made my expectations for this style of music far too high and they were never matched.

I have a hard time choosing between this and Bitterness, The Star. Technically this is the better album, but damn if Bitterness... doesn't hold a place in my cold, black heart

Sucha nostalgic record. It's a shame they went downhill after this record.

pretty hard for most metalcore bands to write a better album than this
they just peaked early. happens to so many bands
|
| |
Thing is I would have been happy if they had just churned out the same album over and over, regardless as to whether or not it would ever best this or Bitterness.... They had something unique, and they ditched it in favor of doing what every other mainstream metalcore band was doing

I agree Dev, bands like this and The Agony Scene had those one hit wonder records then went down the drain. Pretty disappointing.
RIP 2004 METALCORE

Yep. The album after this one was still very good, but you could tell immediately that their direction had shifted towards the common trend.
|
| |
Rest Inside The Flames still has some gems on it yeah, but that album was definitely the shift towards mediocrity
Even The Tide And Its Takers has some fantastic songs on it - 'The Back Harlow Road', 'Waiting On A War', 'Northern November'.....

For sure. But, man. The most recent album was so weak. You know they've lost it when they write a "Waterhaul II" and it only turns out to be a decent song. I don't know if they'll ever be able to return to greatness.
|

I can respect that album from a technical point of view (the band are all playing to their strengths etc etc) but fuck me, way to make an incredibly dull and shallow album where not one track is really indistinguishable from the next. The first track has an incredible intro though

the heart and the shape is amazing but otherwise Bitterness and the Star is so much better all around

NIIIICE. I bought this album way back when, and it somehow got massively fucked in my cd player. Obviously I didn't want to buy it again so I really didnt listen to it afterwards. sad.
