The fact you're saying this makes it obvious you're mostly paying attention to production and cool-factor, and aren't really listening to the music as-it-is(i.e., where each note is placed in relation to every other note).

This is truth however, despite badtastes user name hahaha, he knows his shit.

It's not a personal attack. There's simply no other reason one would have that kind of reaction to black metal, which has displayed some of the most advanced musical compositions to emerge from popular music.

Nah, 90% of black metal might as well be called black poop. But when it's at its best, there's nothing better. This Message Edited On 02.21.09

I just have trouble remembering much of this album, a lot of their best material is here but there a couple songs I never really got in to. Prometheus is easier for me to digest despite being overblown at times.

Anthems is their best though.

This is their best, because (as noted) individual songs work together to form a complete work. Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is great, but it almost comes off as a compilation album.

I think this is definitely their best. This is Norwegian black metal at its finest. Anthems is awesome too. The others are good, but definitely can't compare to the first two at all.

I don't get how you can give this album a 5 if you don't like the vocals. Personally, I think the vocals on this album are the best in the genre and suit the atmosphere absolutely perfectly.

Amazing album.

The production kind of bothers me, though. Yes I know, it's Black Metal, and usually it doesn't even bother me when the whole thing sounds like it has been recorded in a garage as long as I can hear what's being played, but the guitar sound is pretty much indistinct throughout most of the album due to the keyboards being rather loud.

Regardless, the album is awesome, particularly the last 3 tracks(EDIT: I don't mean the bonus tracks).

I'd imagine explosive diarrhea would rather sound like Demilich's vocals.
