I believe you're thinking of his 10,000 Days review, which is still up.

Ah, it is too.

i'm not really sure how you can call keenan's lyrics 'light'. schism especially is quite a deep song. i don't know if you compared it to fall out boy just for effect, but it's just not true. firstly, put the lyrics in the context of the whole album, as they're meant to be taken. secondly, consider what they're about, and you'll find yourself thinking of some pretty heavy philosophical content. the fact that they're so repetitive is a poetic device.

i'm not saying you have to like the lyrics, it's just you have to offer a more sophisticated criticism.

i think in general you have to be willing to look for something specific to appreciate lateralus. whilst it is one of my favourite albums, it's not something i would put on as background music or in the car. without wanting to sound pretentious, you really do have to approach it like you would a piece of art: listen to and consider every detail and try to interpret what it's saying, and how it's trying to say it.

with regards to isis, i think they try something a bit different. for them it's about the circularity of music and using it to evoke mood, and whilst tool do this they don't give it as much priority as isis do. conversely i would say that whilst isis do consider dynamics in their music, they likewise do not give as much priority to them as tool do.

Tool fans are only tools if they can't accept that the band have their flaws.

Nevertheless, this album is great. I can listen to it numerous times and not get bored.

i don't think this album sounds anything like Aenima. Lateralus sounds a lot more radio-friendly than anything tool has done in the past, despite it being long and boring. it didn't totally suck as an album but it didn't completely own either. it also sounded like they just threw crap together to pump another album out but the "heart" wasn't there. where's the emotion that was apparent on Opiate, Undertow, and Aenima? i mean, even "Message to Harry Manbeck" alone had more balls than this entire album. This Message Edited On 07.26.07

Danny Carey's drumming inadvertently makes me ignore almost any other flaws this band might have. Which makes me a Tool as well, I suppose.

Justin Chancellor plays some great bass lines, it has to be said.

Whether people like Schism or not, there is no denying that the bass in that is the kind of catchy that drives people to suicide.

i was exaggerating, but i dont think this album lives up to the potential it was capabale of achieving. tool has such a creative & talented force behind it, i just dont think it was apparent on this album at all.

This may sound 'totally retarded', but there's no way you can give this a 2.5/5 when Tool is one of your fav bands.

This is probably their finest album.

I like Ticks And Leeches. That spazzy drum pattern on the toms is awesome.

Yeah it's cool. It was one of the last songs that grew on me. One of the things i dig is Danny Carey's open snare sound in quite alot of the songs; It's gold in Reflection and Ticks & Leeches.

Sanchez buddy, Undertow=4/5, Aenima=5/5, 10,000 Days-4/5.

They're one of my favorite bands. This album was too damn long and boring. Plus, 10,000 Days has Vicarious and The Pot, two of my favorite songs of all time.
