Definitely gets repetitive, not within a song but across the album. I mean, I like it a lot and I've listened to it a lot but I still can only really remember Chaosweaver and 2012... which are the first two songs. But then, despite being good, this type of music wasn't at all new so I suppose that's not surprising.

I don't know who else had done this exact type of music by 2005. The only person that comes to mind is Dan Swanö

While the Gothenburg sound was already done to death by 2005, Scar Symmetry actually did something somewhat different. Soilwork's A Predator's Portrait and Natural Born Chaos are quite similar to this, though.

I never saw a parallel between them to be honest. This is way better than those albums, though. And I wouldn't say Scar Symmetry ever had the Gothenburg sound. Totally different riffing patterns, different character of the music too.

You miss this kind of creativity from Scar Symmetry nowadays. The exclusive use of harsh vocals in a chorus (in 'Obscure Alliance'), the jazzy passage in 'Orchestrate The Infinite', the whole thing of 'Hybrid Cult', etc. And these excellent songs are all towards the end of the album - they're not just plowing it with filler after the first 5 tracks. Great stuff.

Veil of Illusions is still one of Nilsson's top solos and they've never done anything like Detach from the Outcome again, not as well at least

Obscure Alliance is a goodun. Nothing here had really jumped out to me yet until it came on

Hot damn, the back half of this is hitting a lot harder than the front for me

Great debut yes, but let's not say they haven't been getting back into the swing of things since Neohumanity dropped.

To be fair even the unseen empire has some pretty great moments, although it's bogged down by bad vocal melodies and weird production. But yea, neohumanity slaps

I've been diving into their stuff for the last week. All their albums have strong highlights, even Dark Matter and Unseen Empire

That's true, there are pretty good songs on dark matter dimensions as well, although it's still harder to enjoy because of the production

overall it'd be really nice if these guys got nuclear blast to re-release this album or something, currently it's their only album not with NB and they pretty much never play any songs off it live anymore, as if they're afraid to promote it or something
