This was a huge letdown. After hearing The Bird and The Worm, I had hopes for this. But aside from the Ripper and The Bird and The Worm, this was awful.

This album cheers me up. Idk why.

I get that effect as well. IMO this was a huge success for the Used as far as experimenting with new sounds goes. They ditched an ailing genre very gracefully.

I agree.

After bands do something like this I'm always extremely curious about what they do next.

Same here. I predict their next one will be either a terribly uninspired work of crap resulting from writer's block (that tends to happen when a band makes a breakthrough like this) or will be something completely out of nowhere. They have changed pretty radically with every album, after all.

They have a EP with "heavy leftovers" from this album coming out at the end of the year. I can't wait for that.

ok review. i just can't stand the singer's voice.

btw, the used aren't emocore. emocore stands for emotive hardcore, and you can't have emocore without the hardcore.

and how is emo an ailing genre. There's quite a bunch of great emocore bands out there right now. This Message Edited On 06.02.07

Emo is emotional hardcore, so emocore would be emotional hardcorecore. That's just silly!

You listen to true emo bands like Hot Cross, Saetia, and Circle Take Square and u know that the Used isn't close to being emo. We weren't talking about emo when we said The Used was coming out of an ailing genre, but now that you bring it up I do think that the real emo scene need some new good bands. This Message Edited On 06.02.07

^What he said.

I've always considered the Used to be a blend of pop-punk, hardcore, and something else I can't quite put my finger on. They're not an emo band, although the lyrics would lead one to think they are. (Although the song "Sound Effects and Overdramatics" could probably be categorized as an emo/emocore song)

^That's why I hate genre conversations, because one guy always knows waaaaay more about it than the rest of us. No more for me lol.

I use to like the USED... well actually I truly thought that their first album was perfection, their second album left me with a bad aftertaste and when the band posted the whole album on their myspace page i couldn't get passed the fourth song. It was truly the worse four songs ever. I hate to say it but the USED will n ever be what they once were, and considering that they were one of my favorite bands once, that sucks.

Hot Cross, Saetia, and CTTS don't even have the emo genre listed on their myspace's
